Why Renovating Homes ‘Never Gets Old’ for Chip and Joanna Gaines
By Movieguide® Contributor
After 21 years of marriage, Chip and Joanna Gaines are just as enthusiastic about home renovations now as they were when they first started.
To celebrate 10 years of their hit TV show FIXER UPPER, Chip and Joanna took on a massive project called, FIXER UPPER: THE LAKEHOUSE. Movieguide® reported:
The six-episode special follows Chip and Jo as they undertake the huge flip near Lake Waco, Texas.
“We feel honored that we get to continue pouring into the stories of these homes across Waco, and we’re excited to share our latest project with you this summer with FIXER UPPER: THE LAKEHOUSE,” the GainesES said in an HGTV press release.
“I felt like this house taught me so much,” Joanna told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “But more than anything, it kind of solidified that what started all of this — which was 21 years ago when Chip and I got married and we were doing renovations together — is still the same thing that we go by today, which is all about home.”
“That’s the thing we’re most passionate about,” she added. “Home is the best place on Earth. And so the fact that we’re still doing the very thing that we started with — that never gets old.”
As the couple celebrated their 21st anniversary at the end of May, Joanna reflected on the time the couple has shared and the memories they’ve made.
“What an exciting ride. To look back and just to think where it all started and where we are now, it’s all a gift. We’re very surprised by all of it, but we’re having a lot of fun along the way,” she said.
On their anniversary, Joanna shared photos of her and Chip in New York City in 2023 and in 2003.
She wrote, “Twenty One Years. You’ve always had a way of taking a thought or a quiet dream I’ve tucked away, and helped me step into it and make it a reality. What a journey, a wild and crazy (yet somehow peaceful) ride. So grateful to God for this life we get to share together.”
