In Luke 2, Mary is quiet after she gives birth to baby Jesus, but have you ever wondered why?
Shepherds “hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart,” Luke 17-19 says.
“Dish It Girl” podcast host Dina Deleasa-Gonsar believes Mary was quiet because she “was certain that the moment she was in was unique and it was in fact between her and the Lord and she took time to preserve that and she didn’t want it to pass her by.”
Christian Parenting noted that Mary was filled with wonder and joy holding Jesus and seeing unexpected strangers who came to meet him.
“This episode explores Mary not only as an example of obedience, but of self-control, restraint, and spiritual maturity,” Christian Parenting wrote. “As others reacted, Mary reflected. She held both the joy of new motherhood and the painful prophecy spoken by Simeon — that her own soul would one day be pierced — trusting God with emotions she did not rush to explain or perform.”
The Light wrote their other lessons we can learn from Mary. For example, she trusted God even when she didn’t fully understand his will.

“Mary didn’t know how Joseph would respond, what her future would look like, or how God would work everything out,” it wrote. “But she trusted the One who did,” and that took tremendous faith.
Mary was imperfect, but she was of pure heart. Million Praying Moms notes her biggest desire was for her life to reflect back on God, and she got the ultimate fulfillment to that wish.
Her attitude says it all in Luke 1:46-55:
46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
If we obtain even a little of Mary’s humble attitude and great faith, we will be going in the right direction.
