AMERICAN IDOL contestant Baylee Littrell might have only made it to the show’s Top 20, but the young Christian artist is just getting started.
“I’ve been doing music on my own for really the past, like six years, seven years, mostly spending my time in Nashville and touring,” he said in an interview with CCM Magazine. “But it just never was really working out like I had hoped. I was never getting the big break that I needed or the exposure.”
Littrell auditioned for AMERICAN IDOL earlier this year, taking a chance by performing his own original song, “Hey Jesus.”
He shared that the moment was “risk-taking,” but it was important to him to share his faith while he had that platform.
“We live in this world now where we’re so broken,” Littrell explained. “But it’s so important for our young generations as well to turn to faith and at least have that outlet to hear it.”
He continued, “At the end of the day, I wanted to say…to Gen Z and even my laterborn Millennials out there, ‘There’s a kingdom waiting for you. There’s a God waiting for you. All you have to do is trust [and] believe and it’s that simple.'”
Littrell spoke further about his faith in an interview with Fox News, sharing, “That’s the foundation of my faith is what my parents taught me growing up, what I would learn in school, growing up…You know, it’s really the foundation of our life.”
“I look at being like a good Christian is one who does not judge, one who accepts everyone,” he continued. “So, it played a big role and it was actually really freeing to have it on the show and be able to be that voice for people that have already known it for so long or that are just now finding it. So, it meant a great deal to me.”
So, what’s next for Littrell?

“The next step is releasing ‘Hey Jesus,’” he told CCM, sharing that the single will “hopefully” be out next month.”
He also shared his hopes for his career, saying he wants to “do both” Christian and secular music.
“Writing songs that are a love letter to God is very special,” Littrell said. “But just because you’re not a ‘Christian artist’ doesn’t mean you can’t release faith-based music.”
He’ll also be cheering on his fellow IDOL contestants, including Desmond Roberts.
“I absolutely love Desmond so much. He’s so talented,” Littrell told Us Weekly. “So I would love to see Desmond be able to take home the grand prize there and win. I mean, I’m so torn though…I’ll be watching ’em every step of the way and rooting for ’em all. But we’ve got some monumental voices on the show this year.”
Baylee Littrell’s time on AMERICAN IDOL might have been short, but the young artist is already getting ready to make his mark on the music industry.
