New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson praised God after a breakthrough game on Thursday against the New York Jets.

Henderson scored all three of the Patriots’ touchdowns; two were on the ground and one was a receiving touchdown. Those three scores make for five total touchdowns in the last two weeks for Henderson.

“I can’t do it without Jesus,” the athlete said when asked how he feels about making such a huge impact during his rookie season.

“I’ve just been staying patient, trusting in the Lord’s plan,” he told THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. “Just continuing to do my part, and the rest I just leave up to him.”

The athlete also expressed gratitude to God, adding, “I’m so weak without Him, and I really mean this from the heart: I can’t do it without Jesus.”

Henderson had been filling in for the injured Rhamondre Stevenson.

On Thursday night, Henderson joined SportsCenter and talked with Scott Van Pelt about how he prepared for the starting running back role.

“The biggest thing, most importantly, something that really helps me, you know, prepare for these games is just seeking the Lord,” Henderson said. “Spending time in the word, spending time in prayer.”

“I think just trusting the Lord’s plan,” he continued later on. “Just knowing that He has a plan for me and [continuing] to do my part, coming to practice each and every day. Just trying to be the best that I can be and honor [God] with the work that I put in.”

“Something that I’ve really learned through this season of life that I’ve been in is just to be grateful no matter the circumstances, no matter if I had a good game or a bad game. No matter if I have a little bit of [repetitions] or a lot,” he emphasized.

His dedication to his craft doesn’t go unnoticed.

“I think it was a big time for him stepping up, and it’s been great for him to get all these reps, to keep getting these reps,” rookie quarterback Drake Maye said of Henderson. “He wants to be great. He’s just showing up every day and asking questions. Get out here, rookie. Yeah, sorry about that. Yeah, I think just continuing for him to keep going the oncoming weeks and know that him and Mondre and our backs, we can create a good one-two thing going. Looking forward to have Mondre back, but TreVeyon stepped up huge.”

Henderson helped put the Patriots on top in the NFL with a 9-2 record. But despite all the success, he knows without God’s help, none of it would be possible.
