New Survey Shows 87% of Americans Had Prayer Answered Last Year

By Movieguide® Contributor

The Radiant Foundation conducted a study that resulted in several Americans testifying that they’ve had at least one prayer answered in the past year.

The survey included over 1,700 Americans and released on the National Day of Prayer. The 2023 American Prayer Wrap survey found that 87 percent of Americans said they had at least one of their prayers answered within the last twelve months.

The Christian Post reported that the survey also showed the average American prays twice a day and for about 18 minutes a day. In addition, 84 percent of participants stated God hears their prayers.

Not only that, but the survey also revealed 94 percent of Americans pray on their own.

Participants were asked when they preferred to pray, 55 percent of respondents said they preferred around bedtime. Another 50 percent said around sunrise. Other participants preferred on the way to work, while on a walk, before or after school, or during chores.

When asked where they desired to pray, 83 percent of participants said their bedroom and 61 percent said their car. Other common places of prayer were in nature, the shower, at a cemetery, at a religious organization, at school, at the gym, or on public transportation.

In regard to what participants pray for, many respondents said they’ve prayed for loved ones during crisis, the health of a person whose health suffered, other people’s hurt in time of need, and for their own health.

Movieguide® recently reported on National day of Prayer:

In fact, President Joe Biden stated in response to National Day of Prayer, “On this National Day of Prayer, we recognize the profound power of prayer, grounded in deep humility and hope.”

Many faith leaders across the country spoke on the importance of prayer due to the worry of where the state of our country is headed.

Chief Field Officer of Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Kansas City, Missouri, Dan Britton stated, “Prayer is the one thing that can have the greatest impact on our lives and the lives of others. Today, on this National Day of Prayer for our nation, our leaders, families and all across America, we can ask ourselves: ‘What is the one prayer that will change your life?’”

He continued, “’Yes, Lord!’ When we pray these two words, we acknowledge God is in charge and we are not. We give up control and place all our trust in him. The Lord is constantly moving in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit, and when we simply pray, ‘Yes, Lord!’ we are responding to his leading and direction. We are placing him in charge of our lives.”

He concluded, “We value and join those who believe prayer is vital to our relationship to God through Jesus, and is a powerful tool to unite a nation toward a common goal.”
