Ballerina Farm’s Hannah Neeleman Responds to ‘Attack’ Article

Ballerina Farm’s Hannah Neeleman Responds to ‘Attack’ Article

By Movieguide® Staff

Hannah Neeleman, a social media influencer who celebrates traditional femininity and hard work on her family’s farm, recently came under fire for holding to conservative values.

After holding her peace publicly, Neeleman finally responded to The Times’ hit piece, calling it an “attack” on her family.

“A couple of weeks ago, we had a reporter come into our home to learn more about our family and business,” Neeleman said in a video posted to her Instagram account, called Ballerina Farm.

“We thought the interview went really well, very similar to the dozens of interviews we had done in recent memory. We were taken back, however, when we saw the printed article, which shocked us and shocked the world by being an attack on our family and my marriage, portraying me as oppressed with my husband being the culprit,” Neeleman said.

“This couldn’t be further from the truth,” she continued. “Nothing we said in the interview implied this conclusion, which leads me to believe the angle taken was predetermined.”

Neeleman later returned to Instagram to share her story in her own words.

“Everyday I share a glimpse into our rural farm and family life here in the mountains of northern Utah. I wear many hats–mom, wife, cook, business owner, content creator, lover of God and all things butter. For long time followers and those just joining the journey, I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you our story in my own words. My time before marriage, before kids, before I even dreamt of creating Ballerina Farm,” Neeleman said.

“At different parts of my life, I’ve had different dreams–dance; marriage; motherhood; dreaming of building a business,” Neeleman said.

Now, “The channel is an expression of my real life. It is beautiful, rewarding and I get to do it with my family. We have many dreams still to accomplish and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Neeleman’s post was met with loads of support.

“I love all the love in the comment section ?. Believe me, most news articles are all about shocking headlines and aren’t grounded in any sort of truth. It’s SO hard to read lies about your family in print and I’m sending you love this morning. Keep standing firm in your faithfulness to your faith and your family. Ignore the lies and keep shining your light,” said HGTV’s FIXER TO FABULOUS Jenny Marrs.

Former star of TLC’s LITTLE PEOPLE BIG WORLD Audrey Roloff wrote, “When they are so jealous they have to justify it some way? Love your response ???.”

Brittany Lake, wife of Grammy-award winner Brandon Lake, said: “Crying. I love seeing pride in being a wife, a mother and passion in your calling and giftings. You have awoken something inside me to take pride in what God has entrusted me with and beauty in the things that are so foreign to our culture today. Keep your head up you’re an absolute star. Tears as I type this and hold my precious third boy in my arms ❤️”

The original article — and subsequent backlash — comes at a time with the #TradWife trend on the rise. A trad wife, shortened for “traditional” wife, is a woman who has committed to serving her family above all else. These women often take on mostly exclusive roles in their homes, managing the parenting, cooking, cleaning and other home-oriented tasks above career or corporate goals. Though the concept is far from a new trend, the growing popularity could empower women to celebrate traditional family dreams.
