Former NFL Star Reminds Us ‘God’s Sovereignty Reigns’ Ahead of Election

Former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson wants Christians to remember that God is sovereign no matter the outcome of the election tomorrow.
“Christians, if it has not been part of your normal practice in the past, take time today to commit to praying regularly for our next President BEFORE the emotions of this week engulf the nation,” he wrote.
“No matter the outcome God’s sovereignty reigns,” Watson continued. “No matter who wins we are commanded to pray for those in positions of authority and leadership.”
“Our duty in this regard is not dependent upon our support for Trump or Harris. It is an act of obedience to the God we serve,” he concluded.
The former football star is vocal about his faith-forward approach to politics, especially when it comes to advocating for life.
“…while we as a [pro-life] movement have accomplished much, we have gained little ground in the hearts of Americans. And that must change immediately, as public support for abortion is polling at an all-time high,” Watson wrote on Instagram in June.
“Yes, we need pro-life laws to protect lives, but laws are not enough to change hearts,” he continued. “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said that ‘the law cannot make a man love me…but it can restrain him from lynching me’ He correctly recognized that just laws are necessary to restrict harmful, evil practices, but they can never fully reform someone’s heart.”
“Hearts are changed not by statutory prohibitions, but by individual encounters of unselfish service, compassionate conversations, and uncompromising principle clothed in humility,” he added.
Last year, Watson released The New Fight for Life Roe, Race, and a Pro-Life Commitment to Justice, a book he hopes will encourage pro-lifers to continue the fight following Roe v. Wade’s overturn in 2022.
“Life has value. And I see that any sort of attack on Human Dignity is an attack on our Creator. And so as long as I am breathing this air, my hope is to be an advocate,” Watson told Fox News.
