Candace Cameron Bure, Jennie Allen Contrast Joy and Happiness
By Movieguide® Contributor
Candace Cameron Bure and Jennie Allen are highlighting the difference between joy and happiness.
“So, happiness, I would say, is an exterior feeling,” Bure explained on an episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.” “It’s a feeling that we feel happy when things are created around us that give us happiness. But joy is a deep inner feeling that you have when you have peace and contentment and happiness, too, despite your circumstances. And joy comes from the Lord.”
The pair talked about the importance of finding the things that bring joy, whether it’s going to the beach or eating a favorite snack. By building joy through everyday activities, “you’re going to feel happy more,” Allen promised.
“Pretty consistently, we’re going to have trouble,” she continued. “And pretty consistently, there’s going to be gifts in the midst of that trouble. The easier I see the gifts instead of the trouble, [the easier I] can notice the gifts.”
Bure and Allen also spoke about finding joy, even in difficult times.
“That’s that difference between joy and happiness, because I don’t think anyone’s expecting you to put on a cheery face and be happy in the midst of dark circumstances,” Bure said. “However, there can be joy. There is joy to be found.”
The pair previously spoke about the importance of being in touch with your emotions. Movieguide® reported:
Candace Cameron Bure and author Jennie Allen are reminding us that emotions are an important part of our relationship with God.
“I think one of the real, hardest parts about sharing…is just because that is such an important part of emotions. They are God-given, they are built,” Allen said during a recent episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.” “The reason emotions are so important is because they connect you to people. They connect you to Him.”
It’s a subject that Allen unpacks in her book “Untangle Your Emotions.”
“We learned from a young age, ‘Okay, I shouldn’t cry, I shouldn’t act out. I shouldn’t be angry,’” she said in an interview with Woman’s World. “But when we learn to feel our emotions and to process them in healthy ways, we see that they’re really gifts given to us by God to help us navigate a really broken world and connect us to Him and other people.”
Speaking about the book, Allen said, “I want to break down what we actually can do with our feelings so that, whether you feel a million different things jumbled up or you wonder if your emotions aren’t there because you haven’t felt in so long, you will have something simple to do that helps anyone starting from anyplace untangle it one step at a time.”
