Chip and Joanna Gaines Will Launch a New Network

Chip and Joanna Gaines Will Launch a New Network

By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer

Audiences far and wide adore the home improvement couple Chip and Joanna Gaines. Their HGTV show, FIXER UPPER aired six years ago and propelled them into stardom, eventually landing them numerous book deals, their own magazine and even Joanna’s own line of home décor at Target. In the fall of 2017, the Gaines decided to leave HGTV to focus on their marriage, family and “catching their breath,” but recent news shows this interim period is almost over.

In the next year to year and a half, fans can expect to see Chip and Joanna again. The pair announced on THE TONIGHT SHOW that they’ll return to TV on their new network called Magnolia, after their home décor line. Discovery CEO David Zaslav partnered with the couple to make this dream come to life. Chip and Joanna stated that their first priority is their family, and the network will be structured to fit around that first.

John Marsicano, a Magnolia spokesperson echoed this sentiment, “The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique, inspiring and family-friendly content.”

On Twitter Chip and Joanna’s Magnolia account detailed the surprise news:

The Discovery Channel confirmed the news on Saturday with a statement. “The Gaineses are exceptional people, true authentic storytellers and creative visionaries who will nourish millions of people with quality, family-friendly programming accessible on a 24/7 network and across all screens.”

Chip and Joanna, along with the five children live in Waco, Texas where they did much of the shooting for FIXER UPPER. In order to stay close to their home community, a lot of their new network programming will be shot in the area, giving them access to their family and omitting a need for excess travel.

This “family-friendly” environment is no doubt cultivated by Chip and Joanna’s faith in Jesus. The two met in college at Baylor University and keep their priorities straight by serving the Lord. Joanna notes this in The Magnolia Story that she co-authored with Chip, “Don’t quit, and don’t give up. The reward is just around the corner. And, in times of doubt or times of joy, listen for that still, small voice. Know that God has been there from the beginning—and he will be there until . . . The End.”

Update as of April 10, 2019: As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Chip and Joanna’s new network will launch in the summer of 2020 and will take over what is currently known as the DIY Network from Discovery Channel.
