Chris Pratt Receives Criticism for Faith: ‘That’s the Way It Is, 2,000 Years ago They Hated [Jesus], Too’

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXAY VOL. 3 star, Chris Pratt, constantly received criticism for his faith in God but Pratt isn’t surprised.

In a recent screening for the film, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, Pratt touched on the hate he received due to his faith.

“That’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know,” he stated before quoting scripture.

“If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15: 18 through 20,” said Pratt.

“That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too,” he noted speaking of Jesus Christ.

Pratt’s most recent backlash was prior to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXAY VOL. 3. Many people wanted Pratt to be replaced as Star-Lord in the film. It was likely due to accusations of him attending an anti-LGBTQ+ church.

He continued, “My faith is important to me, but no church defines me or my life.”

Pratt provided encouragement when it came to handling the haters, “Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin…”

Movieguide® recently reported a review for the film:

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 tells an emotional tale about the Guardians risking their lives to save a friend. The crazed scientist who experimented created Rocket, the wise-cracking racoon character, wants him returned. One of the villain’s rogue colleagues comes to the Guardians’ headquarters and mortally wounds Rocket. The villain has planted a coded device in Rocket to stop anyone from reviving him. So, while Rocket hangs on for dear life in their spaceship’s medical facility, the Guardians must infiltrate the villain’s huge lab to retrieve the device’s code and save Rocket.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 has some of the most moving, gripping, funny, redemptive content in any Marvel movie. There are at least three positive references to God and some allusions to Heaven and its beauty. The movie also promotes compassion, courage, sacrifice, standing up to evil, doing the right thing, repentance, and family. However, some of VOL. 3’s violence is excessive. The movie has about 25 to 27 obscenities, a gross scatological joke and some homosexual jokes involving a minor effeminate villain. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
