During the final concert on his farewell tour, Latino musician Daddy Yankee shared that he is now devoting his talents to furthering Christ’s kingdom.

“Tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him,” he declared to fans.

“This is the most important day of my life, and I want to share it because it’s not the same living a life with success than a life with purpose,” Yankee continued. “For many years, I’ve tried filling a void in my life that no one could fill.”

“I tried finding a purpose. On many occasions, it seemed as if I was happy, but something was missing for me to feel complete,” he continued. “I have to confess that those days are over and someone was able to fill that void that I felt for a long time. I realized that for everyone, I was someone, but I was no one without Him.”

“Throughout the years, I was able to travel the world, win many awards, applaud and praise, but I realized something that’s in the Bible: ‘For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul?’” the singer noted, quoting Mark 8:38.

“A chapter has ended, but a new one will begin,” Yankee added. “All the tools that I have in my power, like music, social media, platforms, a microphone, everything that God has given me is now for his kingdom. Thank you, Puerto Rico, and I hope you walk with me in this new beginning and I hope you remember something important: Don’t follow any person. I am human. To all the people who follow me, follow Jesus Christ. He’s the way, the truth, and the life.”

“Just like Jesus, with his mercy, allowed me to travel the world, in your mercy, Father, I hope you allow me to evangelize the world from Puerto Rico. Amen,” he prayed.

Yankee has been a mainstay in the Latino music scene for much of his 30-year career. He helped launch the reggaeton genre with his 2004 hit “Gasolina.” Yankee became world-renowned in 2017 with his mega-hit “Despacito,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 100 list.

It is amazing to see Yankee give up his life of fame to follow Christ and make his name known. Hopefully, his devotion will inspire others to put God first.
