Danica McKellar Thrilled to Dance in New Great American Family Movie

By Movieguide® Contributor

Danica McKellar is ready to use her DANCING WITH THE STARS experience in her upcoming movie, SWINGING INTO ROMANCE.

The Great American Family romantic comedy follows a former dancer, Christine Sims (McKellar), who returns to her hometown. After learning that her family’s business is struggling, Christine decides to stay and help — even at the risk of facing her ex-fiancé.

“I’ve been wanting to dance in a movie since I was on DANCING WITH THE STARS in 2014, but I’ve always loved dancing,” McKellar shared. “My mom was a professional dancer before I was born, so the love of dance is in my genes.”

McKellar also serves as an executive producer on SWINGING INTO ROMANCE, and the movie is truly a family affair as McKellar’s husband, Scott Sveslosky, wrote the story.

“Back in 2017, I told my husband that I wanted to play a math teacher in a movie, and he wrote the story for a movie that ended up being called CAMPFIRE KISS, and I did that for Hallmark,” McKellar said. “More recently, I said, ‘I really want to dance in a movie,’ and he wrote this story.”

She continued, “He’s not a writer! He’s a lawyer. He just is good at putting together ideas when I really want to do something. And it’s just fun to have that knowledge that he’s a part of this.”

SWINGING INTO ROMANCE hasn’t cast McKellar’s co-star or added a choreographer yet, but the actress is already preparing for her role

“I have been training anyway,” she laughed. “Not specific dance moves, but in general, with a coach. Because, let’s face it, it’s nine years after DANCING WITH THE STARS — so I’m nine years older — and it’s not something I do every day. But I love it so much and I want to do a good job. So, like anything else, I’m doing my best to prepare.”

Movieguide® previously reported on McKellar’s partnership with Great American Family:

Actress Danica McKellar recently shared her experience starring in and producing the all-new movie on GAC Family, THE WINTER PALACE.

McKellar, who is best known for her role as Winnie Cooper in the iconic THE WONDER YEARS, shared her love for GAC Media after filming the new romance movie…

McKellar signed a multi-picture deal with GAC, so fans of THE WINTER PALACE can expect to see McKellar in more GAC Family movies down the road.

“It’s been really exciting. I have been technically a producer on some of my past movies, but this is different. This is much more hands-on,” she explained. “I was heavily involved.”
