MLB Pro Explains How God ‘Restores You to Wholeness’
By Movieguide® Contributor
MLB pro Darryl Strawberry is sharing what he’s discovered about redemption — the key is all in your heart.
“Part of who I am was being able to do the work of learning who God is. Learning His word, understanding scriptures. See, the Bible makes it clear about people. My people perish because of lack of knowledge,” the former Mets player told Greg Laurie on a recent episode of TBN’s PRAISE.
“The reason why I was perishing? ‘Cause I had every earthly knowledge but I didn’t have kingdom knowledge,” he said. “…Until I got the kingdom knowledge and understanding…that’s when you start understanding who you are.”
In scripture, God redeemed many broken people, like David.
“And you think about all the other people in the Bible that God used. They was all broken people, but they finally committed themselves, their heart. Remember he said, ‘David is a man after my own heart,’” he said.
“It’s the heart of a man and I think that’s what God looks [for] — to be able to bring about redemption is you give him your heart and you have the heart like him, and he restores you to wholeness.”
Strawberry knows brokenness well. He came from a very damaged home but found healing through Christ.
“Brokenness is so real, and I think a lot of people kind of just sweep it under the rug. And I was no different,” he said, but, “The relationship with Christ heals every brokenness on the inside.
Strawberry was rookie of the year in ’83, an eight-time all-star, four-time world-series champ and hit 335 home runs in his 17-year career.
He made history in June as the tenth Mets member to get his number retired.

The New York Mets have retired former right fielder Darryl Strawberry‘s jersey number.
“Nothing like being home!” Strawberry began his acceptance speech. “First, I’d like to give honor to God. I’d like to thank Him for His grace, His mercy, and His love for my life.”
…“The greatest gift I’ve ever received was accepting the Lord in my life,” he said at the end of his speech. “Not just becoming a baseball player, but becoming a man.”
Though Strawberry’s earthly accomplishments are great, the star says the “radical change” God did in his life is “more important.”
He told CBN last month, “I’ve had an incredible encounter with God, and it has been the greatest gift I’ve ever received. Have I had an effect on people’s lives and bought a lot of cheer from a ball game? Yes! That’s baseball. But being in ministry and preaching the gospel and having an effect on people’s lives — that’s eternal!
“It’s a whole different destiny. I look at how great God is. Nobody’s like God. Nobody can do what He does!””
