Country singer Lee Greenwood explained why Americans still love his hit song, “God Bless The USA,” today.
“From generation to generation, I can’t tell you how many kids, like a 6, 7-year-old will send me a video, or their parents will send me a video of them standing there, waving a little flag and going ‘God Bless the USA’ in their little tiny voice. That’s where patriotism starts,” Greenwood told Fox News Digital.
“I’m pretty sure that, because of how powerful ‘God Bless The USA’ has been since its release over 40 years ago, [it’s] ingrained now into society,” the singer continued. “…It talks about pride and patriotism, and so I think that’s why it survived, and so many kids will grow up. They’re in their 20s and 30s, they have kids, and they say, ‘Hey, look, this is what I did when I was a kid. Listen to this song.'”
Greenwood recently collaborated with rock artist Drew Jacobs to deliver a powerful new rendition of the song.
“This week we celebrate America’s birthday! The land of the free because of the brave! 🇺🇸 ” Jacobs wrote, promoting the song ahead of July 4th. “Crank up the volume and blast the rock version of ‘God Bless the USA’ loud and proud. Let freedom ring, louder than ever!”
Green also reflected on America’s freedom earlier this week, sharing an older picture of him with a military flight crew.
“As we get ready to celebrate America’s birthday this week, I’m reminded that freedom doesn’t come easy — and it doesn’t come free,” Greenwood wrote.
“I never imagined growing up in California that life would take me to military bases around the world… but it’s been one of the greatest honors of my life to stand in front of the men and women who protect this country and simply say thank you,” he continued. “We celebrate because of them. 🇺🇸”

Greenwood joined President Donald Trump in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday to kick off America’s birthday celebration.
“I’m honored to join President Trump in Des Moines, Iowa, as we kick off America’s birthday celebration! 🇺🇸,” the singer said. “There’s no better way to start the 4th of July than standing with proud Americans, celebrating our great nation and the freedoms we hold dear.”
“God Bless The USA” reminds us year round that patriotism and love of country never go out of style.
