Gospel singer CeCe Winans shared our biggest call of all: “to draw people to [God].”

“How do you recognize that you have your call?” she asked in a video for TBN. “I think you recognize it by seeing the fruit of it.”

Winans recalled singing her first solo at 8 years old and crying because “I didn’t want to sing, they [my parents] made me sing.”

“But at one point [during her performance], I realized people were crying and I realized [it was] somebody bigger,” she explained. “It wasn’t my voice. God made it very clear at the beginning — ‘It is not about your voice.’”

Winans said “the spirit of God” came in, and she understood that “this is more than me.”

“And I think if we all realize that from the beginning, that it is somebody much bigger than you, but we’re just called to…minister to Him, but also to draw people to Him,” she concluded. “And I just think that is the biggest calling of all.”

Winans recently performed in NPR’s TINY DESK concert video series, telling the audience, “I just want everyone to know God loves you with an everlasting love, because He never changes, we can always run to Him, no matter what we face.”

She also spoke about the impact God has had on her life over the years, saying, “I fell in love with the presence of God as a young child, and I’m so glad I did, because it’s a safe place. He’s blessed me with a great family.”

“When you recognize who Jesus is, you can’t help but worship Him,” Winans concluded.

She also appeared on radio show ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, sharing, “I get hope from what I do. That’s one of the privileges in doing gospel music because it is a form of music that is always uplifting, always encouraging, reminds us that we’re loved.”

“It’s in that same good news that I find my hope,” Winans continued. “I don’t have to fear about what’s going to happen because I serve a God who knows the end from the beginning. So I can actually experience true peace of mind and heart because of that relationship. So my hope is in Him.”

Following her performance, Winans shared a statement about her NPR performance, saying, “Celebrating 30 years as a solo artist at NPR’s TINY DESK and on ALL THINGS CONSIDERED was truly special.”

“To perform in such an intimate setting, where the music and message could really connect, was a beautiful experience,” she continued. “And the chance to share my journey on ALL THINGS CONSIDERED allowed me to reflect on just how faithful God has been every step of the way.”

Winans’ story is an important reminder that, above all, our calling is to God and His glory.
