Chris Hemsworth’s LIMITLESS is coming back to Disney+ for a second season.
“Working on LIMITLESS was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to reflect on my strengths, vulnerabilities and all the ways in which we as humans can plan toward longevity,” the THOR actor said in a statement about the renewal. “For this next season, we are attempting to raise the bar and go even deeper in this exploration alongside health and wellness experts from around the globe.”
Season 2 of LIMITLESS will see Hemsworth undergo a series of challenges that many around the world face every day, including mental agility, pain, burnout and interpersonal connection.
“Amazing science and intense challenges are the inspiration for experiences that will push Chris to explore and grow as he’s never done before. To do that, Chris will need to travel to the ends of the Earth to uncover the latest scientific thinking and unlock some of the world’s best-kept secrets to living a better life,” a press release about the show added.
According to Gold Derby, the actor will travel “from his native Australia to the far reaches of Nepal, Italy and the United Kingdom, all in search of the secrets to living a long and healthy life.”
Tom McDonald, the executive vice president of global, factual, and unscripted content at National Geographic, added, “Millions of viewers around the world were inspired and wowed by the combination of science, endeavor and the incredibly committed Chris Hemsworth in the first season, so it’s with huge pride that we announce its return. This new season will have the scale, the drama and the challenges you’d expect from LIMITLESS, but we’ve also got some big and exciting surprises in store for the audience and for Chris himself.”
The first season of LIMITLESS saw Hemsworth, his brothers, and his wife explore different ways to live better and longer.
Movieguide® previously reported on a discovery Hemsworth made during Season 1:
While working on a new show, Chris Hemsworth has made a serious discovery — he is at an increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
During one episode, Hemsworth learns that he has two copies of the APOE4 gene, one from each of his parents. This means he has an increased predisposition for developing Alzheimer’s.
The show’s producers asked him if he would rather not address the blood test in the episode, but Hemsworth was adamant they talk about it.
He explained, “I thought, ‘No, look, if this is a motivator for people to take better care of themselves and also understand that there are steps you can take – then fantastic.’ My concern was I just didn’t want to manipulate it and overdramatize it, and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy or whatever for entertainment.”
He also shared how this news has given him a greater appreciation for his family, and how he wants to step back from his career and spend more time with them.
“Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet,’” he explained. “I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. And then you start talking about kids and family and going, ‘Oh my God, they’re getting older, they’re growing up and I keep slapping another movie on top of another movie.’ Before you know it, they’re 18 and they’ve moved out of house, and I missed the window.”
