Dolly Parton Will Be Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Despite Previously Bowing Out

Dolly Parton will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, alongside other icons like Pat Benatar, Carly Simon, and Lionel Richie.
This year marked the first time Parton had ever been put on the ballot. The country superstar received her nomination in February, but made headlines the following month when she announced that she would be turning down the nomination.
“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
However, last week, the Movieguide® Grace Prize® winner said that she would accept the induction if she got nominated.
“Well, I’ll accept gracefully. I’ll just say ‘Thanks’ and I will accept it because the fans vote,” she told NPR.

In a recent announcement, country icon Dolly Parton said she decided to bow out of this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame list of nominees.
Parton decided to exit to ensure that she would not split votes for the other nominees.
“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” she wrote in a statement posted to social media. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
The Movieguide® Grace Prize® winner was nominated alongside artists like Eminem, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Kate Bush, and DEVO, among many others.
“I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy,” Parton continued.
“This has however inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one,” she continued. “I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment Rock on!”
Despite Parton’s label as a country artist, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams have all received their place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
