Erin And Ben Napier Call Upcoming Christmas Movie Roles ‘Crazy’
By Movieguide® Contributor
HOME TOWN stars Erin and Ben Napier are opening up about their upcoming role in the Discovery+ movie A CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE.
“It felt crazy that anyone would make a movie in Laurel, Mississippi and the people in Laurel, Mississippi also thought it was crazy,” Erin said of the couple’s hometown. “Not something I ever would have put on my bingo card of life.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the movie:
Fans are used to seeing Erin and Ben Napier appear on their HGTV home improvement show HOME TOWN, but the couple are about to make their movie debut!
The Napiers will appear in A CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE, one of Discovery+’s upcoming holiday movies.
Before saying yes to the movie, the Napiers turned to friend Ree Drummond, the famous “Pioneer Woman” chef. She starred in CANDY COATED CHRISTMAS last year.
“(Drummond) said it was one of the most fun things she had ever done,” Erin shared. “She said we had to do it and said we would love it. So, we said, ‘OK, great, we will do it.’”
A CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE follows Katie and David as they attempt to fix up Katie’s mom’s house and sell it — something the Napiers have tons of experience with.
The couple play Henry and Sarah Wright, a master carpenter and artist, respectively. The characters they played are very similar to the Napiers in real life, and Erin shared that the Wrights say “the same things we would normally say.”
Filming A CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE was a busy time for the Napiers.
“While we were filming the movie, we were also filming HOME TOWN season six and HOME TOWN TAKEOVER season two,” Ben said.
Erin added, “While being home every night at 5:00 to be with our baby girls.”
The couple also handled oldest daughter Helen starting school this year, as well as finishing the renovation of their Mississippi farmhouse.
“We bought a 1920s English Tudor style farmhouse that’s out in the county outside of town. It’s really rural, and it’s quite nice,” Ben explained. “We both grew up on a farm. I grew up in rural settings and [was] always working on farms, so we wanted our daughters to have that experience.”
