HEARTLAND’s Amber Marshall shared some fun facts about her experiences on the show.
“Horses have ultimately taught me that if you have five minutes, it’s going to take five hours,” she said in a recent YouTube Q&A, reflecting on how her four-legged co-stars have taught her patience.
Marshall joked, “And if you have five hours, it might take five minutes!”
When asked when she feels most herself, the actress answered, “Anytime I’m out in nature with animals. I love being on set, and I think that HEARTLAND especially has such a great atmosphere for someone like myself, because I love being out in nature like this. If I was in a studio every day, I don’t know that I would feel like myself.”

She also spoke about the fan stories that have really stuck with her over the years.
“Anytime I hear about someone who has lost someone, or who has gone through sickness or an injury, and they’re able to not only find happiness and peace from HEARTLAND but also find a way to be motivated and to keep moving forward in a positive way,” Marshall shared.
In a January interview with Cowgirl Magazine, she spoke further about HEARTLAND and why it keeps drawing in fans, 19 seasons later.
“There’s something about the Western lifestyle. That connection between humans and horses, that people just feel. Even if you’ve never been near a horse, there’s a respect there. I think that’s what keeps people watching,” she explained. “I believe horses have a lot to do with the longevity of HEARTLAND. You can feel their power even through a screen.”
Marshall also reflected on the legacy of her character, Amy Fleming.
“I live my life for me,” she said. “But I also think about the hundreds, thousands of lives I’ve touched through the show, interviews, whatever it might be. I hear from families who say, thank you for creating something wholesome we can watch together. That means a lot.”
Marshall continued, “I want to show people that you can be content just being who you are. Laugh at yourself. Do crazy things. Live for you, not anyone else. Do it because it feels right and makes you happy.”
HEARTLAND has not been officially renewed for a twentieth season yet, but Marshall is hopeful.
“We all love each other like a family, and it will be a sad day when HEARTLAND closes its doors. But I don’t think that day is yet. I am very hopeful,” she told High River Online. “I honestly hope that we can continue making this series for another decade or more.”
HEARTLAND fans, keep your fingers crossed for Season 20!
