Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake took CMA Fest attendees “to church” with a special performance of their hit single “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
“Look at Brandon taking Nissan Stadium to church right now!” Jelly Roll said during their performance, per an Instagram video.
The country star also prayed over the audience of 70,000: “We love you, Lord. Thank you for letting us testify tonight at the CMA Fest, Father God.”
“Hard Fought Hallelujah” is one of the biggest worship songs of the year, hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart. It also cracked the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, peaking at number 40 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Speaking to K-LOVE about the decision to invite Jelly Roll on the track, Lake said, “I wanted to share this song with somebody that had a really beautiful and hard-fought story, and the first person that came to mind was Jelly.”
“I’m honored that I was the call,” Jelly Roll added. “I’m a Brandon Lake fan…What he’s doing for Christian music, even outside of Christian music — he’s taking it further than I’ve seen anybody take it in a long time.”
Jelly Roll added that he “wanted to share [his] heart” with Lake as they worked on the song, saying they “didn’t want it to feel like an off-brand collab.”

The country singer also said he “love[s] the conversation [the song is] creating” with people from all walks of life, concluding, “Millions of people like me are finding a safe place in God.”
Jelly Roll recently wrapped up a series of tour dates opening for another rapper-turned-country singer Post Malone.
“Dear Austin, I say this on stage in some way every night, but man, being on this tour with you has been unreal. I have never had more fun in my life,” Jelly Roll wrote in an Instagram post celebrating his time on the tour.
He continued, “I am honored to be opening up for you every night, I’m honored to call you brother and blessed to watch you perform every night. The genuine gratitude you have for everything is infectious…Thank you for the opportunity, I don’t take it for granted so I laugh, dance and sing from the soul every night.”
Meanwhile, Lake is preparing for the release of his next album, KING OF HEARTS.
“I’m not sure if I knew who this record was for when I started writing it, but as the songs came the more I realized it was not for the seemingly put together, but rather those who are honest about their brokenness, but also have a desire to connect with their creator and experience Him in everyday life,” he wrote on Instagram.
Jelly Roll and Lake are two artists who are using their massive platforms to share their faith with fans all over the world.
