‘Purpose-Driven’: Jim Harbaugh Leads Michigan to National Championship Win
By Movieguide® Contributor
The Michigan Wolverines’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh, led his team to its first College Football Playoff National Championship since 1997.
Despite missing six of the Wolverines’ 15 games due to suspensions this season, Harbaugh powered through adversity to keep his team undefeated.
After the win, Pastor Rick Warren shared on X, “Congratulations to Jim Harbaugh @CoachJim4UM for winning the National Championship in Houston last night, then catching a plane to L.A. so that at 3:15 am this morning he was doing quarterback drills with Chargers Justin Herbert in Sofi Stadium. He’s a Purpose-Driven Coach!”

Another pastor, Derwin Gray, wrote, “One day after practice while playing for the Colts, #JimHarbaugh and I were talking about the future. He told me [he] was…going to be a head coach after his playing career. He did it. And he just won a national championship!”
Harbaugh has always been outspoken about his faith. Before the Rose Bowl, he explained why he bases his life on the foundation of Jesus.
“I have a feeling that if Jesus would have come back now in this era, I suppose that many of the biblical analogies and teachings would be about sports,” he said. “Solomon would have been a great coach, too. I have that feeling. Jesus would have been a…five-star player, no doubt about it. He would have been a Hall of Fame coach.”
With a new head coaching position open with the Los Angeles Chargers, Harbaugh is the top candidate for the job. However, he doesn’t even want to think about that.
“I just want to enjoy this,” he told the media after the game. “Does it always have to be what’s next?”
Per Church Leaders, “If Harbaugh returns to the pros next season, he’ll leave behind the allegations of illegal recruiting and sign-stealing at Michigan. Hoping to keep Harbaugh, the university reportedly offered him a contract extension worth $125 million over 10 years. The coach, who said he’s ‘very proud’ to have led his alma mater to a championship, had promised players he’d get his first tattoo if they went undefeated.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Harbaugh’s brother, John:
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is taking his faith to the locker room by leading his team in prayer.
“It is amazing to see this happening in the Ravens locker room. I’m not sure how many NFL teams are doing this, but this is absolutely special,” Christhete wrote on Instagram along with a video of Harbaugh and the Ravens.
The video shows the team take a knee before praying from Matthew 6:9-13: “Thank you, Lord. Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”
