Katy Nichole on ‘Whirlwind’ Singing Career: ‘A Lot of Dreams Come True’

“In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” singer Katy Nichole recently appeared on CBN’s STUDIO 5, sharing her experience of suddenly finding herself as a top Christian artist.
“I’ve been very blessed. I feel like this year and last year just are a lot of dreams come true,” Nichole said in the STUDIO 5 March 13 episode.
Last year, Nichole became famous overnight with her TikTok sensation song, “In Jesus Name.” Since then, it’s been a “whirlwind.”
“I’ve just grown up. I’ve grown up a lot. I think a year can change a lot in one’s life. I’m so grateful for you know the things that in ‘Jesus Name’ has, you know, brought into my life and how it’s allowed me to just continue to write music that you know is touching the hearts of so many people,” she shared. “But also just that is from my heart and is so deep from you know my story from my experience just everything in my life I get to write songs about that and it’s so cool.”
“I understand that ‘In Jesus Name’ is now platinum,” Studio 5 host Efrem Graham told Nichole.
“That’s wild. That one doesn’t…I don’t know if that one even feels real at this point in time. It’s so crazy,” she said, in awe of the fact that the song touched so many people.
“There have been so many encounters with Jesus through this song,” she explained. “I’ve experienced so many stories of just people in their lives going through such hard trials and God just meeting them there and I’m like that’s what it’s all about whether the healing or the miracle…that God would meet you in that place is so sweet.”
“And that’s exactly why I want to write music is so that I can hopefully just bring Jesus to people in their trials and their tribulations and their life,” she said.
Nichole made history when “In Jesus Name” reached the top of Billboard’s chart for top Christian music in the song’s 12th week. She’s the first female to have a song go to No. 1 that quickly, per The Fish.
Nichole wrote “Hold On” after she came out of a serious bout of depression.
“I contemplated ending my life, and I reached for a bottle of pills one day, and when I did, that bottle of pills fell onto the floor and spilled, and I felt the Lord just saying, ‘Hold on. I’m not done yet,’” Nichole told Graham.
“It just felt like I was being consumed by this feeling of, okay, I guess there’s more for my life, not really knowing what that meant, not really even knowing if I was going to make it to the next day, but somehow having this, you know, they say having faith the size of a mustard seed, and I truly only had that. I was hanging on by a thread for real,” she explained.
After she experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit for the first time, she had a renewed faith in God.
“That song comes from this moment in my life of the Lord speaking through me,” she said.
In 2023, Nichole released a song, “My God Can,” with hit Christian singer Naomie Raine.
“I love Naomi and I ran into her at a Dove awards event and I was like, ‘Hey girl, do you want to be on a song?’ And she was like, sure, like, send it to my people, like, let’s hear it, and then she was like, yeah let’s do this,” Nichole shared.
Movieguide® reported what Nichole wants listeners to take from the song:
“It’s based on the verse Philippians 4:13: ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,’” she explained. “I want to remind you today that even when you don’t feel strong, God is strong. His strength never fails. There is nothing impossible with God. He will go before you, and He will exceed every expectation that you’ve ever had. I want to remind you today that even when you can’t do something, God can. And that is something that I have confidence in. This is my anthem for you. Even when I can’t, my God can.”
Nichole is about to go on tour with the band We the Kingdom next month.
“We could not be more excited to announce that we are headed out on The Church Music Tour this spring and we’re bringing our friend, @katynicholemusic!” We the Kingdom announced on Instagram. “We have some exciting things planned and cannot wait to get on the road to share these songs with you, both ones you know and some you may not have heard yet.”
