Kelsey Grammer Says JESUS REVOLUTION Role Was ‘An Answer To Prayer’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Greg Laurie shared the emotional reason behind why Kelsey Grammer decided to join the cast of JESUS REVOLUTION.

“We were on set shooting the film,” Laurie said while appearing on ERIC METAXAS ON TBN. “You know, you have a lot of time where you wait for the next scene to be set up. And I said, ‘Kelsey, why did you take this role? You’re a very successful actor, you have a great career, and yet you take the role of a struggling pastor. What prompted you to do that?’”

Laurie said Grammer “teared up” before answering.

“He said, ‘Well, I was at a point in my life where I wanted to do something that was meaningful…I was with some friends. We were meditating and talking about this, and I just opened myself up and I said, “I want to do something that can help people and impact people’s lives,”’ Laurie said.

He continued, “He said ‘The next day, the script for JESUS REVOLUTION came to me…I read it and I said this is it.’ Then I said to Kelsey, ‘Well, Kelsey, I think this was an answer to your prayer.’ He says, ‘I agree.’”

Grammer talked more about his faith journey in an interview with USA Today.

“I’ve had hiccups. I’ve had some tragic times,” the actor shared. “I have wrestled with those and worked my way through them: sometimes rejecting faith, sometimes rejecting God even, in a period of being pretty angry about it, like, ‘Where were you?’ That kind of thing. But I have come to terms with it and have found great peace in my faith and in Jesus.”

Grammer continued, “It’s not cavalier — Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologize for.”

JESUS REVOLUTION smashed box office records and is now one of the most popular movies on Netflix.

Movieguide® reported on the movie’s success:

JESUS REVOLUTION continues to prove that faith-centered movies do well at the box office as it marks Lionsgate’s highest-grossing domestic release since KNIVES OUT in 2019.

JESUS REVOLUTION has earned $39,453,451 at the domestic box office, surpassing the previous record holder, THE HITMAN’S WIFE’S BODYGUARD (2021), which made $38,014,727 domestically.

KNIVES OUT (2019), a murder mystery movie, brought in $165,364,060 domestically.

The movie’s success as Lionsgate’s highest-grossing domestic release in three years shows that Christians will support entertainment that promotes and honors faith and family values.

The Christian Post reported that JESUS REVOLUTION “featured in the Aug. 4-11 issue of Newsweek as part of the growing surge in faith-based movies and TV shows [and] has become Lionsgate’s biggest release in over four years.”
