THE AMERICAN MIRACLE recounts America’s founding from a faith-based perspective, something that was important to the movie’s cast.
“This one was important to me just because of the fact of what we’re doing in our public schools and what we’re doing our universities, that we’re forgetting about how this country founded,” Kevin Sorbo, who plays the young Thomas Jefferson in the movie, told Movieguide® at the red carpet premiere at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
“It was founded by godly men, it’s founded by men of faith, men that believed that men should be free, and they knew they were committing treason…against King George,” he said. “They knew that they would have been hung if this little American miracle didn’t happen.”
“The American dream is still real, as far as I’m concerned,” he added.
Sorbo explain that he was raised to follow his dreams, and he did exactly that.
“They taught us that you can reach for those stars, as corny as that sounds,” Sorbo explained. “I believed in the dream. I fell in love with acting when I was 11, told my parents at 11, ‘I’m going to be an actor.’ My mom said, ‘That’s nice dear.’”
He first rose to prominence as Hercules in HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS in the ’90s, but working on his first faith-based movie in 2010 changed his trajectory.
“…the first faith-based movie I did was called WHAT IF with Dallas Jenkins, and that movie, in my mind, was the movie God put me in to put me down this road I’m on right now,” he said.
Pat Boone, who plays the older Thomas Jefferson, shared why he’s passionate about telling the story of America’s origin.
“We need to be aware of who we are, where did we come from, what were the motives, what was the influence, what is it that drove our founders?” he said. “It was the Bible, it was God, wanting to be a new Israel like the former Israel. I just feel that this is something that we all need very much. We need to know how did we get here? Who did i? Why?”
People on Instagram shared that they loved the film. In the comment section of THE AMERICAN MIRACLE Instagram, one user said, “Wonderful movie. Everyone who loves our country should see.” Another person added, “What an encouraging work! My 14-year-old said that it was the perfect mix of docu+drama!!🙌”
Movieguide® rated THE AMERICAN MIRACLE highly with a +3 for content. The review reads, “THE AMERICAN MIRACLE focuses on America’s founding from the start of the Revolutionary War to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The movie follows George Washington and his leadership during the War for Independence.”
Movieguide® notes, “Though God’s Providence is the main theme, the movie couches that theme in a strong acceptance of the miraculous.”
THE AMERICAN MIRACLE premiered in theaters for a short time June 9-11.
