Kim Walker-Smith Releases Song for Moms: ‘Be Bold in Parenting’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Grammy award-nominated artist Kim Walker-Smith just released a song that she hopes will be an anthem for all moms.
“I hope it encourages mamas everywhere, emboldens them, and fuels their fire in fighting for their children and to be bold in parenting,” she said of the song titled “MAMA.”
The song reminds mothers of the important, God-given role they play in their children’s lives.
Some of the lyrics read:
I’m the one who sings their lullabies
I’m the one who wipes the tears they cry
I’m bible-readin’
Jesus-preachin’
On the in and outside
But God help you if you ever cross the lineBack off my babies
You can’t replace me
Don’t go thinkin’ you know better
I’ll do the prayin’
I’ll do the raisin’
I’ll decide what’s best
Because I’m MAMA
Because I’m MAMA
“I homeschool my kids and most of the work I do is within churches so I’m not attending school board or PTA meetings, but I’m not oblivious to the war that has been declared on our children,” Walker-Smith told The Christian Beat. “As a mother of three young children, I cannot let my guard down for one second. This stirs a righteous anger in me. I want to use my talents to help in this battle. While praying and talking to God about it, I felt God drop this song in my heart. The words and melody just came to me. I got with some other songwriting parents who helped me finish this song.”
Upon the release of the new song, Walker-Smith shared on Instagram, “I have been waiting for this song to release! It is a FIGHT song! Rise up MAMAS, take back your VOICE, and remind the world-you CANNOT be replaced! Shout it from the rooftops-those are MY BABIES!!”
“MAMA” can be streamed on all platforms.
Movieguide® previously reported on Walker-Smith’s faith:
Walker-Smith explained how her upcoming album, “Under the Big Sky,” reflects her prayers and the “wilderness” journey she has been on for the past three years.
“I felt like I’ve been in the wilderness, but it’s not been a negative thing. It’s actually been really good, a blessing, and I’ve felt drawn much closer to God during this time,” she explained. “These songs have been the prayers that have come out of there.”
The “Where You Go I Go” singer hopes her music will do more than draw people close to God.
“I actually pray that for people who, like me, have been kind of in a wilderness, that these songs kind of help carry them through,” she said.
