Lions LB Alex Anzalone ‘Draws Closer’ to God as He Balances Fatherhood, Football

Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone recently joined the “Sports Spectrum Podcast” to discuss how he balances faith, fatherhood and marriage with his football career.
“I think that with children and a 3-year-old toddler who’s going through all these transitions, it’s definitely, you know, you have to be patient,” Anzalone said on the podcast. “I think [God] definitely wants me to draw closer to Him in all this commotion and, you know, even in the off-season we have construction going on and, you know, kids and a 3-month-old and doctor’s appointments and all these different things going on.”
“But at the same time, like Lindsay and I’s focus needs to go to Him,” he continued. “And I think that’s a lesson that we’re definitely learning in these moments, in this season, like you mentioned that we’re going through. And, you know, it’s definitely [a] great reminder to be a better Christian and have a better walk. And that is something that we strive to do every day.”

He opened up about their marriage in a letter to the Player’s Tribune, crediting his wife, Lindsay, for her steadfastness and faithfulness over the years.
“My wife, Lindsey, she’s my absolute rock. There’s nothing I can say here that would sum up how much she means to me, and how emotional the last three years of our lives have been,” Anzalone wrote. “In 2021, Cooper was born. In 2022, right before our second training camp in Detroit, as we were preparing to welcome our second child into the world, we had a miscarriage. The toll that kind of nightmare takes on a mom is always so so hard, but when you have a one-year-old at home and your husband is always on the road or at work…Well, it’s just amazing to me how she was able to be so strong for us all.”
Last season, Anzalone was part of Detroit’s historic run at a Super Bowl.
After the loss in the NFC Championship, he shared a message to his fans on social media.
“Anytime you get to go out there and suit up is a blessing. Fell short of our goal. No more tears or heartache, just appreciation. Focus is now onto year 8,” he wrote.
