Luke and Joel Smallbone of For King And Country to Share Their Upbringing in New Movie
By Movieguide® Contributor
For King & Country band members Joel and Luke Smallbone recently revealed new details about a new movie project.
“I felt so loved and cared for by you over the last few months,” Smallbone captioned a recent post. “I know some have been concerned that I’ve been ill or even in rehabilitation. Thankfully, neither have been the case. In fact, Luke, the whole team and I have actually been working tirelessly on a feature film.”
His post shows a poster for the upcoming movie, called UNSUNG HERO. The poster features a large family standing in front of their car.
“A 90s true story, the film circles around a powerful Australian Mum, her six kids, financially ruined husband, and their miraculous journey across the ocean to start a new life in the United States,” Smallbone’s caption continued.
“That ‘Mum’ is mine, and the story belongs to my parents. The movie is about family, motherhood, parents sticking together through thick and thin, it’s about immigrants, and it’s for you…” he went on. “There will certainly be more news to come. And if you’re joining us on the road this Christmas, you might just get the chance to see a sneak peek.”
Smallbone ended his post by revealing that he is playing his father in UNSUNG HERO.
Movieguide® previously reported on for King & Country’s upcoming movie projects:
The popular Christian band For King & Country, led by Australian brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, announced their partnership with Monarch Media for two upcoming feature-length movies.
The Grammy award-winning band’s first project is a documentary called RETURN TO SYDNEY: THE FOR KING & COUNTRY JOURNEY. The movie will highlight the careers of Joel, Luke, and their sister Rebecca St. James.
The Hollywood Reporter reported:
The doc, now in production and directed by brother Ben Smallbone, will use home videos and never-before-seen footage of the band’s two sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House. Andrea Royer, Steve Barnett and Alan Powell are producing, while Vicky Patel will executive produce along with David Smallbone, Luke Smallbone and Joel Smallbone.
The “God Only Knows” performers will also be featured in the upcoming movie titled UNSUNG HERO. The “family dramedy” follows the Smallbone family as they travel to America as their mother, Helen Smallbone, relies on her faith to raise nine children in a new home.
“With the great partnership of Monarch Media and Radiate Films, we’re inviting you to join our family’s radical journey. With thousands of hours of home camera footage, captivating interviews from key partners and friends and a defining show at Sydney’s Opera House, we’re pulling back the curtain on our lives like never before,” Joel and Luke Smallbone said in a statement.
UNSUNG HERO will feature much of the same creative talent behind PRICELESS, which Ben Smallbone directed.
Recently, Monarch Media produced and financed the new Netflix musical, A WEEK AWAY.
