Matthew West Prays United States Returns to ‘One Nation Under God’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Last Monday, Christian music artist Matthew West took to X to respond to President Biden after he declared March 31—Easter Sunday—as Transgender Day of Visibility.

West replied, “Dear Mr. President, Yesterday was EASTER SUNDAY. As for me and my house, the only thing celebrated on 3/31 was a risen Savior who died and rose again to take away the sins of the world. Praying for our nation to return to ‘one nation under God,’ & for our leaders to display better wisdom than this.”

The singer addressed the matter in his latest podcast episode, “What is this World Coming to?”

“I feel like my prayer life can resemble the weather in Nashville these last couple days,” West began. “Wherever the wind blows, you know what I mean? And that’s okay. I think stream-of-consciousness prayers and just things that pop into your head you think to pray about that. But sometimes praying for my nation and my leaders doesn’t pop into my head often enough.”

“Instead, what pops into my head when I think about the state of our nation, the state of our country, the state of our world, the state of our leaders is I worry,” he continued. “And then, you know, I probably get angry too.”

“This past weekend, if you’re a Christian, you have a hard time not being disappointed or frustrated or even anger[ed] by just the bold statement made by the office of the President that it was National Transgender Visibility Day, March 31. Just going out of their way to highlight that on Easter Sunday with so many people who follow Jesus, it was really insensitive and disrespectful to Christians,” he said.

West shared that he feels “we live in a world that preaches tolerance but practices the opposite.”

“I feel like we’re living in a time where people will applaud anybody who stands up for anything they believe in and speaks out for anything they believe in as long as it ain’t Jesus. And that’s when the intolerance seems to begin,” he reflected.

Everyone needs Jesus, but people’s devotion to lifestyles that contradict God’s Word makes it difficult to accept His truth.

However, as believers, we can continue to pray for them and hold onto God’s promises in Philippians 2:9-11:

Therefore God exalted him [Jesus] to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Movieguide® previously reported on West:

Christian music artist Matthew West just released a new book that reminds readers how God uses our stories to glorify himself.

The book, “My Story, Your Glory: Discover the Journey God Has Planned for You,” is a 30-day devotional where West guides “readers to discover how God’s love can rewrite our stories while exploring how His glory redeems every chapter of our lives, the title comes from West’s hit single and album of the same name,” the Christian Beat reported.

“There is nothing more inspiring and uplifting than witnessing stories of God at work in people’s lives,” West said. “Our testimonies of God’s faithfulness have the power to embolden each other, carry each other through hard times, and change the world.”
