Though like most Americans, most liberals consider themselves to be Christian, they tend to be much less religious than conservatives, a new survey reports.
According to the Barna Research Group 94% of conservatives call themselves Christian but only 74% of liberals do so. Lead researcher George Barna added:
“Liberals appear to place a greater emphasis upon self-reliance and what they personally accomplish than upon faith alone or intense participation in a community of faith. They also seem less inclined to trust the Bible as a moral authority or source of truth, and have less involvement in some type of personal relationship with their god.”
In contrast to this, Barna said conservatives are “more connected to their deity, seeing God as more personal, interactive and involved in their lives.”
Conservatives are more likely to:
Read the Bible, 57% to 33%
Attend a religious service, 62% to 35%
Pray to God, 91% to 76%
Consider their religious faith to be very important, 82% to 54%
Firmly believe the Bible is totally accurate, 63% to 27%
Believe that Jesus Christ was sinless, 55% to 33%
Have a biblical view of God, 82% to 55%
Believe that their primary purpose is to love God with all of their heart, mind and strength, 76% to 43%
Of course, the historical evidence, and the evidence of the biblical texts, refute the lukewarm positions of liberals regarding God and the Bible. You can indeed trust what God says in His Word, the Bible!
“Since you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am going to spit you out of my mouth” – Jesus Christ, Rev. 3:16
