Pierce Brosnan leans on his Catholic faith during difficult times, including the deaths of his first wife and his daughter.
“[Prayer] helped me with the loss of my wife to cancer and with a child who had fallen on tough times. Now prayer helps me to be a father, to be an actor and to be a man,” Brosnan told RTE.ie in 2011.
Brosnan’s wife Cassandra Harris passed away in 1991 after battling ovarian cancer, while his daughter Charlotte died from the same illness in 2013.

The JAMES BOND actor continued, “It always helps to have a bit of prayer in your back pocket. At the end of the day, you have to have something and for me that is God, Jesus, my Catholic upbringing, my faith.”
“God has been good to me,” Brosnan said. “My faith has been good to me in the moments of deepest suffering, doubt and fear. It is a constant, the language of prayer … I might not have got my sums right from the Christian Brothers or might not have got the greatest learning of literature from them but I certainly got a strapping amount of faith.”
In a 2014 interview with the NY Daily News, the actor added, “I would say faith, being Irish, being Catholic, it’s ingrained in my DNA.”
Brosnan has since found love with journalist Keely Shaye Brosnan. The pair met in 1994, tying the knot in 2001.
In an interview with PEOPLE that same year, Brosnan said, “I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good.”
The pair are parents to sons Dylan, 28, and Paris, 24.
“Keely and I love each other and are blessed to have each other as companions in this life,” Brosnan told Fox News. “We’ve created a good life for ourselves of hard work and perseverance of life.”
He continued, “Marriage is always about solving problems. It’s just solving one problem after [the other], whether it’s the washing machine or how far the finances are going to go or what your dreams are. But ultimately, we just enjoy each other’s company enormously. She’s given me wings to fly and gallivant around the world making movies.”
Brosnan has faced much tragedy in his life, but the actor has always had his faith to rely on when things get hard.
