DANCING WITH THE STARS’ Kel Mitchell Takes Witney Carson to Church

By Allyson Vannatta Staff Writer

Kel Mitchell is bringing the Gospel to DANCING WITH THE STARS!

On Monday night’s episode, Mitchell and his partner, Witney Carson, were preparing for the week ahead when she asked him what his plans were for the week, other than practicing of course!

He began listing his commitments and ended by telling her he was going to church—and invited her to come with him!

The DWTS contestant explained that his faith is an important part of his life and has helped him through many tough seasons.

As Mitchell explained the importance of his faith, he also let viewers in on another job title he holds. The actor, producer and father added youth pastor to his busy schedule a year ago.

Mitchell said he wanted to serve and empower others.

The cameras followed the duo to his church, where Mitchell preached the sermon.

“You gotta be straight with God,” and “I can’t do this on my own,” are just some of the clips shared with viewers.

Carson called the sermon inspirational.

The DWTS package ended with Mitchell saying, “The love of God always gives me energy. I’m definitely going to bring that to the ballroom.”

The former teenage star got candid in an interview with People Magazine  in 2015 about rekindling his relationship with God after his career came to a screeching halt in 2004. Hitting this wall led to drug abuse and suicidal depression.

During this time, he turned to the only source of comfort he knew, the Lord.

“I was trying to figure it all out on my own, but what I needed to do was turn to Him.”

Mitchell continued, “Once I found that clarity with Christ, I knew everything would work out.”

Mitchell has moved on to the semi-finals of DWTS and will compete next week for a chance at the finals.
