Priscilla Presley Calls for Prayer After Daughter Lisa Marie Presley Dies at 54

On Jan 12, 2023, Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, died after suffering cardiac arrest. She was 54.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement. “She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”

The news came after Priscilla Presley confirmed that Lisa was rushed to the hospital earlier in the day on Thursday.

AP reported:

Paramedics arrived about six minutes later, Little said. A subsequent statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said paramedics performed CPR and “determined the patient had signs of life” before taking her to a hospital in nearby West Hills immediately.

On Tuesday, Lisa Marie had attended the Golden Globes, witnessing actor Austin Butler’s award for his portrayal of her father in ELVIS.

“I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it,” she told ET of ELVIS. “I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic that, yeah, I can’t even describe what it meant.”

Just days before that, she was in Memphis, Tennessee, at Graceland — the mansion where Elvis lived — to celebrate her father’s birth anniversary on Jan. 8.

Presley had recently written an essay where she discussed the loss of her son Benjamin Keough by suicide in 2020. Presley is also the mother of actor Riley Keough and twin daughters.

“I’ve dealt with death, grief and loss since the age of 9 years old. I’ve had more than anyone’s fair share of it in my lifetime and somehow, I’ve made it this far,” she wrote in the article, published by PEOPLE.

“I keep going because my son made it very clear in his final moments that taking care of his little sisters and looking out for them were on the forefront of his concerns and his mind. He absolutely adored them and they him,” she added.

Country star Larry Gatlin, who knew Presley’s father, shared that he was “praying” for the Presley family in this time.

“The children of famous people often have a tough road to go, but all of us… we are kind of in a jam as a world, as a country,” he said. “I think its kind of time to circle around and hug each other and pray for each other. Nothing we can say can make them feel any better, but we say it anyway because our hearts have compassion for these folks.”

He added: “The Gatlins are praying for the Presleys and wishing that God’s peace and comfort comes to them.”

Lisa Marie grew up around the Christian faith.

Priscilla previously attended the Movieguide® Awards Gala and spoke openly about how she and Elvis incorporated faith in their lives.

“I mean he grew up with gospel music, grew up going to church, and I think that’s something that people have known for a long time, how religious he and his family were. So that really is his roots. Truly,” Priscilla told Movieguide®.
