This BAYWATCH Actor Chose Family Over Hollywood and Has No Regrets

Actor David Charvet called it quits with Hollywood when he realized his life was busy beyond his control. Best known for his role as Matt Brody in the hit television show BAYWATCH, Charvet, who was born in France, also had a successful music career following his time on the 1990s lifeguard drama.

According to an article on Fox News, Charvet says family became a priority over the entertainment industry:

The 49-year-old shares two children, daughter Heaven, 15, and son Shaya, 14, with ex-wife Brooke Burke. The pair were married from 2011 until 2020.

“Before I had my first child I was traveling for five years in 42 countries doing concerts for my music,” Charvet told Page Six on Friday. “There’s no way I could do that again. I had to find a different meaning to my life.”

“I didn’t want to go and take a TV show that was in Canada, I didn’t want to travel to Europe to do my music,” he continued. “I wanted to stay home and I wanted to be a good dad. I wanted to be there for my children every single day.”

Charvet is not the only Hollywood entertainer to leave the limelight for personal reasons. As reported by Movieguide®, actress Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu in IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, realized she was better off in Kansas where she lived following the death of her parents. Karolyn says:

“These townspeople rallied around me – the merchants, my teachers, all the kids, everybody – and they just welcomed me with open arms. They gave me so much love and self-confidence. Then I realized I didn’t want to go back to Hollywood anymore. It was a shallow, dog-eat-dog world. I didn’t want that in my life. So I felt content staying in Kansas. At first, I did miss Hollywood. But after I was in Kansas for a year, things changed for me.

Rick Moranis, star of family favorite movie franchise HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS, spent 20 years away from the stage to raise his children after his wife died from cancer. Movieguide® also reported on the story of Dolores Hart, who “starred alongside Elvis Presley, Montgomery Clift, Anthony Quinn, and Marlon Brando but felt called by God to leave her successful entertainment career and become a nun.”

Hart is candid that her decision to leave the bright lights was not her will, but God’s will for her life.

“I think it’s important for anyone to understand that it was a dramatic change. It wasn’t something I planned on. I thought I would go through my time in Hollywood. However, this vocation showed me my life’s purpose. Then I started to ask myself, ‘What am I doing in Hollywood? Where is this going to take me?’ The realization became clear and really, it’s a gift. I was so lucky. God called me,” Hart said.

In the twenty years since leaving the spotlight and a future in pop music behind, Charvet has built a successful home building business in Los Angeles, The Jones Builders Group. According to Fox News, Charvet has no regrets about shifting focus from work to family.

“To wake up every morning early, to be able to be the first face that my kid would see has been a blessing,” he says. “And I did it. People to this day ask me, ‘How come you have such a great relationship with your children?’ And I said to them, ‘The reason why I have such a great relationship is because I put the time in.’”
