Warner Bros. Discovery First Studio To Release NFTs in LORD OF THE RINGS Bundle

By Movieguide® Staff

Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced they would sell an NFT movie bundle for Peter Jackson’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING.

Warner Bros. will be the first major movie studio to sell an NFT (non-fungible token) after teaming up with Web3’s Eluvio.

Deadline reported:

Each NFT features a 4K copy of Peter Jackson’s debut 2001 Lord of the Rings film along with behind-the-scenes footage, lots of stills and exclusive assets inspired by the film. Eluvio is hosting the NFTs via its Ethereum-compatible blockchain and the tokens will go live on a website tomorrow.

“The core digital assets themselves, not just the token, are on the blockchain,” Eluvio CEO Michelle Munson told Decrypt. “They’re both owned and attested to and all of the streaming that you’ll see with the film is authorized and distributed from blockchain.”

The announcement coincided with the recent debut of the first season of Amazon Prime’s LORD OF THE RINGS series, THE RINGS OF POWER.

A portion Movieguide®’s review of THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING reads:

Part One of THE LORD OF THE RINGS is a wonderful “epic” fantasy about good and evil with top-notch actors, storyline and special effects. The movie is clean, but there is plenty of sword-fighting violence that is, at times, a bit too strong for children. The movie also includes a brief occult element not in the book. Happily, however, the filmmakers have left in plenty of Christian author J. R. R. Tolkien’s biblical, allegorical references. Take your older children if they are mature enough to handle mystical creatures, scary monsters and sword fighting.
