What Fans Can Expect from THE CHOSEN Season 4

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins revealed that season 4 will have more sorrow mixed with joy as the series reaches its halfway mark and Jesus’ journey continues toward the cross.

“We’re getting closer and closer to what we know is coming,” Jenkins told Fox News. “There’s some extreme pain and sadness that’s coming soon in future seasons.”

“And of course, there’s also some extreme joy that’s coming. But on the way there, Jesus is getting increasingly sad because of the fact that things are getting increasingly heavy,” he continued.

The director told the Christian Post that Jesus sees that his friends and followers don’t understand why He’s here. “They’re not hearing Him correctly when He tells them explicitly what’s coming, and that breaks his heart,” Jenkins explained.

Season 4 also includes the story of Lazarus’ death and Jesus raising him from the dead. The shortest verse in the Bible – “Jesus wept” – occurs during this story.

“That happens in season 4, and it happens more than once,” Jenkins said about Jesus weeping. “So I know that’s not necessarily the best advertisement for a show to say that this season is going to be – to have a lot of sadness. But I think it’s an important part of the story.”

“And the tension is mounting,” Jenkins added. “The enemies are starting to close in. As we reach the midway point of the show, we start to head towards what we all know is coming.”

While Jesus’ sorrow comes from his knowledge about the suffering He is soon to endure, it is more so a reflection of His sadness about humanity’s brokenness and that “his followers around Him” and the “Holy City” don’t “get it.”

To help viewers fully experience these emotions, the entirety of season 4 will be available for viewers to watch in theaters. The first three episodes will hit the big screen starting February 1, 2024.

“…There’s lots of joy, there’s lots of laughter, there’s lots of miracles that we get to experience, which is one of the reasons why we want people to see this on the big screen and see this together,” he said.

“We’ve always loved to be disruptive and to do things that haven’t been done before, and this is a great opportunity,” Jenkins told The Christian Post, explaining why the whole season will be in theaters. “We’re not doing it just to be different, but because we believe that this season demands it.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate again with THE CHOSEN team to bring fans the entire fourth season to cinemas before it is available elsewhere,” said Fathom CEO Ray Nutt.

Season 4 of THE CHOSEN will arrive in theaters in early 2024.

“For the first time ever, the full season of a streaming-TV show will be released exclusively in theaters, distributed by Fathom Events,” a press release about the show stated.

Fans of THE CHOSEN were able to view the premiere and finale of Season 3 in theaters.

“Every time we’ve dipped our toes in the theatrical waters, viewers have overwhelmingly told us they want more,” creator and director Dallas Jenkins explained in the statement. “After seeing the Season 4 episodes, we knew we’d be doing our fans a disservice if we denied them the chance to see them all on a big screen with others they can laugh and cry with.”

Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, added, “We are thrilled to collaborate again with THE CHOSEN team to bring fans the entire fourth season to cinemas before it is available elsewhere. It is a testament to the big screen’s power to unite people and have them share in this communal experience.”
