What to Expect from NCIS’ 1000th Episode

The NCIS franchise, a 21-year-old marine crime series and its spin-offs that are loved across the globe, will air its collective 1000th episode on April 15.

“The list of shows that have crossed the 1,000-episode milestone is largely populated by talk shows, soap operas, game shows, and reality programs,” EW said. “(And, of course, SESAME STREET.) Especially in recent years, the list doesn’t include many shows like NCIS.”

Movieguide reported on March 28:

NCIS is one of the longest-running television series, and the franchise is about to reach its 1,000th episode.

Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee, told TV Insider, “Reaching 1,000 episodes for the franchise was insane, and, by the way, I’m pointing out that almost 500 of those are just us. I just have to throw that out there because I’m proud of that.”

“It’s unreal. We had a lot of people asking what it was like, and I kept kind of shaking my head because it’s really unfathomable,” he added. “Shows are not supposed to go 21 years. It’s a miracle to get picked up. It’s a miracle to go past one year…It’s a real miracle if you go five years. It’s an insane thing.”

The NCIS original series’ 464th episode will mark the 1000th for the franchise.

EW reported, “The achievement counts episodes across all NCIS shows, including the original series, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, NCIS: HAWAI’I, and the new NCIS: SYDNEY. All told, it’s roughly 42,722 minutes of water-adjacent investigations across the United States and, as of November, Australia as well.”

The 464th episode will center around Director Leon Vance, and it doesn’t hide anything. It’s titled “A Thousand Yards” and will be full of Easter eggs for fans to find. Daniela Ruah from NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Vanessa Lachey from NCIS: HAWAII and NCIS’ Joe Spano will all appear in the episode.

The show’s official Instagram will share hints about the Easter eggs throughout the day on April 15. Screen Rant reported the Easter eggs will go all the way back to NCIS’s pilot episode.

The 1001st will be special, too. Its title teases the continued success of the franchise. US Weekly reported that it’s called “The Next Thousand” on NCIS: HAWAII.
