Why Dax Shepard And Kristen Bell Don’t Allow Their Daughters to Have Screen Time

Dax Shepard recently shared the reasons why he and wife Kristen Bell don’t allow their daughters to have any screens, from cell phones to iPads.
While many families are trying to figure out how to regulate screen time, “We don’t have a phone problem ’cause they’re not in the mix,” Shepard explained. “And iPods aren’t, iPads aren’t in the mix and video games.”
He shares two daughters with Bell — Lincoln, 9, and Delta, 7.
He continued, “So there’s three things in my house that are not happening — those things. And they complain about it all the time: ‘So-and-so’s got it.’ And I go, ‘Yeah, but you gotta swimming pool and you got a dirt bike.'”
Shepard explained that he and Bell want their daughters to know that the “world is enormous” and don’t want it to “reduce it to a seven-inch screen.”
He said that his daughters find it “frustrating,” but he has a pretty good comeback.
“Look, you get to play with it at your friend’s house,” the actor explained. “I’m not saying you can’t play video games when you go out and about in the world. You do whatever you want to do, but doesn’t happen here.”
He went on, “We have a bunch of other [stuff] that your friends are jealous of, So it’s like ‘no one gets everything’ and that.”
Shepard also said he was not “committing” to telling his kids that they can have phones or other devices once they reach a certain age.
“They want me to commit to that and then I just say, ‘Well, it’s not today, and I’m not a clairvoyant, so I’m not sure when that’ll be,’” he laughed.

Kristen Bell (FROZEN) and her husband, Dax Shepard, say that practicing the biblical virtue of gratitude changed their family.
“Dax has suggested a couple times, ‘Let’s just name three things we’re grateful for,’” Bell said. “I am shocked at how into that our girls have gotten.”
The Bible celebrates a grateful heart in multiple scriptures, including Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Colossians 3:15.
The family reportedly started the ritual as part of Shepard’s 12-step program for addiction, which has some faith-based roots.
“We’ve been trying to move it up to the morning, as it’s been recommended to me by, well, the 12 Step program is very into that,” Shepard said. “As soon as you start the day, there’s the three blessings, there’s a lot of different traditions that incorporate a morning gratitude list.”
Their daughters, Lincoln and Delta, will now remind their parents to list their gratitudes at the end of each day.
“We’re in the bed sometimes at night, they will say, ‘Does anyone want to talk about what they’re grateful for?’ And immediately [my] mom heart goes crazy, and I’m like, ‘Sure, if you do,’ trying to act cool,” Bell said.
