DESIERTO

"Ugly, Amoral, Politically Dishonest"

What You Need To Know:

DESIERTO is a bare-bones thriller about a group of illegal immigrants crossing the border into the United States. When their truck breaks down in the desert, they are told two men will walk them across a dangerous stretch of land called the badlands. Just as they start walking, a lone white man with a vicious dog starts shooting them from afar with a high-powered rifle. As the people are picked off like animals being hunted, fewer and fewer illegal aliens remain. The final 20 minutes consist of one man in a cat and mouse game with the killer.

DESIERTO looks like it cost five dollars to make; it just consists of running and shooting people in the desert. There’s little character motivation other than a couple brief scenes. The scenes of people getting shot are shocking in their use of sound and the vicious wounds they experience. This politically correct movie completely ignores any of the complex issues involved in immigration and its attendant issues. This makes DESIERTO an ugly, amoral, politically dishonest movie, with lots of foul language and nihilistic killing.

More Detail:

DESIERTO is a bare-bones thriller about a group of illegal immigrants crossing the border who are shot and chased mercilessly by a white American man and his vicious dog. DESIERTO looks like it cost five dollars to make, with little character motivation and a strong Romantic, politically correct worldview favoring illegal immigration and featuring lots of merciless killing and foul language.

The movie follows a group of a dozen illegal immigrants in the back of a pickup truck after paying three men to get them across the American border and into new lives in America. When the truck breaks down in the middle of the desert, they are told two of the men will walk them across a dangerous stretch of land called the badlands.

Just as they start walking, a lone white man with a vicious dog starts shooting them from afar with a high-powered rifle. These shots of the people getting hit are shocking in their use of sound and the vicious wounds they experience. As the people are picked off like animals being hunted, fewer and fewer illegal aliens remain. The final 20 minutes consist of one man in a cat and mouse game with the killer.

DESIERTO looks like it cost five dollars to make, as it just consists of running and shooting people in a desert. There’s no character motivation other than a couple of brief back to back scenes, where the Mexican hero and woman share their stories about why they’re desperate for America, and the killer talks to his dog about how sad he is the country is being ruined by Mexican illegal aliens. The final showdown becomes repetitive and nihilistic.

There is literally almost nothing else to DESIERTO other than a bleak parade of chasing and killing. The ending is nearly as bleak as well. The fact that the killer is a white man with barely any emotion or motivation makes this movie look like politically correct propaganda that makes it seem all white Americans hate illegal aliens and want them to die, and all Mexicans are innocently trying to make it into America just to survive. The movie completely ignores any of the complex issues involved in immigration and its attendant issues. This turns DESIERTO into an ugly, amoral, politically dishonest movie.

STX Entertainment is the distributor for DESIERTO. Between this thriller and the repugnant HARDCORE HARRY and BAD MOMS, they must be the most hideous distributor to come along in decades. Everyone involved in this movie should regret their involvement.
