What You Need To Know:

AFTER WE COLLIDED begins a month after a breakup between two young adults, Hardin and Tessa. Despite her heartache, Tessa seems to be doing well. In fact, she just got a new internship at a publishing company. Meanwhile, Hardin keeps pursing Tessa via texts and phone calls, hoping that they can reconnect. Eventually, Tessa takes Hardin back. However, Hardin’s estranged relationship with his father and emotionally destructive behavior threaten to tear them apart again.

AFTER WE COLLIDED has good acting, but the story is lackluster and lacks character development. AFTER WE COLLIDED has a strong, mixed Romantic, pagan worldview. It stresses fate and the characters seem adamant that their love can overcome anything. Also, the characters essentially do whatever they want in living out their passions, without any regard to the consequences. There are some light redemptive, moral elements stressing forgiveness and doing one’s job well. However, AFTER WE COLLIDE contains lots of strong foul language, extreme sexual content, explicit nudity, a reference to astrology, and a brief homosexual moment in one scene. Ultimately, AFTER WE COLLIDED is too immoral and abhorrent.

More Detail:

AFTER WE COLLIDED tells the story of a recently broken up college couple and their inconsistent emotions toward one another. AFTER WE COLLIDED is lackluster and suffers from poor character development and has a strong, mixed Romantic, pagan worldview with lots of strong foul language and sexual immorality, along with some other objectionable content.

Tessa and her coworkers go to a nightclub to meet with a businessman who could give the publishing company funds. Afterwards, a drunk Tessa calls Hardin, and he meets her at her hotel. The two wind up getting physical, which complicates things to say the least. Tessa consults her friend, Landon, who’s also close to Hardin, about what to do. Should she take him back or move on with her life?

Tessa visits Hardin’s apartment to end things once and for all, only to find Hardin and his mother, who’s traveled all the way from London to visit. However, Hardin’s mother believes Tessa and Hardin are still an item. Tessa plays along so as not to rock the boat, but in doing so, she and Hardin reconnect and patch up old wounds.

Days later, Hardin, Tessa and Hardin’s mother go to a Christmas day party at Hardin’s father’s home. Hardin’s parents haven’t seen one another in ten years, and his father has remarried and has another son. Hardin has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to his father. He yells at him, which obviously changes the tone of the party and the holiday for the main characters in general. Hardin’s mother scolds his antics and stresses the need to forgive his father for walking out on them.

Meanwhile, Tessa continues to do well at her job at the publishing firm, and it seems like things are peachy for Tessa and Hardin. Tessa helps Hardin with his emotions concerning his family drama, but then at a New Year’s Eve party, Tessa gets into a physical fight with one of Hardin’s old flames. As a result, the couple go their separate ways after Tessa thinks Hardin cheated on her at the party that evening.

Will Tessa and Hardin break their toxic attachment to each other once and for all?

AFTER WE COLLIDED is based on a lewd young adult novel by Anna Todd, the second in a trilogy. It features some good acting, but that’s where any praise stops. The script is lackluster, and the storyline is a bit too jumpy. It’s obvious that the book to screen adaptation needs much more polish. So, while some viewers might empathize with the characters here and there, their character development throughout the course of the movie is slim to none. Thus, while it’s clear that the next movie installment will take the story further, that doesn’t excuse the lack of growth in this movie as a whole.
