ROCKNROLLA

What You Need To Know:

ROCKNROLLA, the latest crime thriller from British director Guy Ritchie, takes a look at the gangster underworld of modern-day London, where real-estate is now a bigger business than drugs. Lenny Cole (played by Tom Wilkinson) is the biggest real estate player in London. He has all the right people in his pocket, from politicians to police to thugs, and he can make any red tape disappear. However, there are a lot of other criminals and businessmen trying to get into the market, and they will use any means necessary to knock Lenny from his perch.

The criminal element is disturbing, the violence and foul language are overwhelming, and the story feels unoriginal. ROCKNROLLA hosts a huge A-list cast, and every actor commits to giving a very good performance. However, the characters bring nothing redeemable to the story. Everyone is an anti-hero. Also, although some of them reap what they sow in a bizarre skewed morality, others continue and flourish in their wicked ways. Along with the over-abundance of immorality, the movie has strong homosexual worldview elements that seek to normalize deviant behavior as well as some very strong depicted drug use.

Content:

More Detail:

ROCKNROLLA, the latest Action/Crime movie from British director Guy Ritchie, takes a look at the gangster underworld of modern-day London, where real-estate is now a bigger business than drugs.

Lenny Cole (played by Tom Wilkinson) is the biggest real estate player in London. He has all the right people in his pocket, from politicians to police to thugs, and he can make any red tape disappear. However, there are a lot of other criminals and businessmen trying to get into the real estate market, and they will use any means necessary to knock Lenny from his perch.

From low-level street hustlers to high-end Russian mobsters to junkie rock stars, everyone is out to lie, cheat and steal their way to the top in this ultra-violent movie where no one is safe, and nothing is off-limits.

ROCKNROLLA feels a lot like Guy Ritchie’s other crime thrillers, LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH. He brings together the fast pace action and multi-layered story, along with some comedic elements, by using quick edits and fun camera angles. That said, his methods feel retread in this movie. It seems that Ritchie’s second verse is the same as his first.

The criminal element is disturbing, the violence and foul language are overwhelming, and the story feels unoriginal. ROCKNROLLA hosts a huge A-list cast, and every actor commits to giving a very good performance. However, the characters bring nothing redeemable to the story. Everyone is an anti-hero, and although some of them reap what they sow in a bizarre skewed morality, others continue and flourish in their wicked ways. Along with the over-abundance of immorality, the movie also has strong homosexual worldview elements that seek to normalize deviant behavior as well as some very strong depicted drug use.

All in all, ROCKNROLLA is not worth the time or money of any media-wise viewer. People of faith and values would be better served to spend their time seeking for worthwhile entertainment that does not glorify immoral, criminal behavior.
