NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell disclosed during a recent TODAY interview that Super Bowl LX could move to President’s Day Weekend.

Many football fans already wish the day after the Super Bowl was a national holiday, so this change could be a major boost.

“I think if you went to 18 weeks regular season that would probably occur,” Goodell told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin.

As of right now, the Super Bowl will occur on Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. However, Presidents’ Day is the following weekend on Feb. 16.

Goodell said the only way this change would happen is if the NFL moved to a 18-game regular season over the course of 19 weeks.

“I do think it makes sense for a lot of reasons,” the commissioner said.

However, the NFL did not discuss an 18-game season at the owners’ meeting in May.

This change sounds good in theory, but what do the players think about this regular-season extension?

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes already doesn’t like the 18-game season due to the risk of more injuries.

“If there were a way, I think you got to add some bye weeks in there to give more time for guys’ bodies,” he told CNBC last month.

Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott also expressed that if they were to extend the season, the players should be compensated for their extra time.

“They’re not paying us enough money already,” Elliott told ESPN last year. “They’re stingy with their money, so they want to make us play 18 games, as a player union, we should get way more money than what we’re getting — and not just the top guys. And the thing is, they’re not out here playing football. They’re not here running around putting their bodies on the line. They don’t care. All they care about is making money, but if you’re going to make money on the top end, the bottom end has to make money, too.”

For the fans, moving the Super Bowl to President’s Day weekend makes sense, but the players don’t seem so sure. As of right now, though, it doesn’t look like anything’s changing.
