THE SKIN I LIVE IN

What You Need To Know:

In the Spanish movie THE SKIN I LIVE IN, Antonio Bandaras plays a widowed plastic surgeon whose emotionally unstable teenager daughter is date-raped by a young man. The father finds the daughter unconscious, and she believes he’s the one who raped her, so she soon commits suicide. The surgeon kidnaps the young man and gives him a sex change operation. After the operation, the surgeon makes the man wear a specially designed body suit that will give him a woman’s shape. Then, the brutish lover of the surgeon’s dead wife breaks into the house and rapes him. The surgeon comes home and shoots the rapist to death. He then makes love to the young man, who he now calls Vera. However, Vera eventually shoots the surgeon and returns to his mother’s dress shop and emotionally announces who he is.

The plot of THE SKIN I LIVE IN is melodramatic to the point of being unbelievable. At the same time, the movie takes a cold, detached, clinical attitude toward its subject matter. This adds to the torture of having to sit through lewd scenes of abuse, rape, lust, and psychological torture.

More Detail:

MOVIEGUIDE® can’t decide whether THE SKIN I LIVE IN is supposed to be a heterosexual nightmare or a homosexual fantasy. A movie by acclaimed, very perverted Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, THE SKIN IF LIVE IN is certainly, however, a lewd and lurid exercise in excessive melodrama and transsexual perversion. As such, it’s another foreign movie that’s meant to shock and indoctrinate rather than to inspire, inform, or entertain.

In the story, Antonio Bandaras plays a plastic surgeon whose unfaithful wife is terribly burned in an accident and commits suicide in front of their teenager daughter. When the daughter returns from the insane asylum, she’s date-raped by a young man. The father finds the daughter unconscious, and she believes he’s the one who raped her, so she also commits suicide.

At this point, the surgeon kidnaps the young man, imprisons him in his house, and gives him a sex change operation. After the operation, the surgeon makes the man wear a specially designed body suit that will give him a woman’s shape. When he finally gets to take the suit off, the brutish lover of the surgeon’s late wife breaks into the house and rapes him. The surgeon comes home and shoots the rapist to death. He then makes love to the young man, who he now calls Vera, but Vera shoots the surgeon and returns to his mother’s dress shop and emotionally announces who he is.

The director of THE SKIN I LIVE IN is a disturbed person. He grew up in a Catholic boarding school where one of the priests was a homosexual pedophile. Apparently, one of the director’s close friends became a transsexual because of this abuse. Instead of rejecting homosexual and transgender politics because of this history, the director embraces them. So, many of his movies have transsexual characters and come from a leftist homosexual viewpoint. Of course, all this is why God, in Chapter 18 of Leviticus, tells the Hebrew people that homosexual acts are evil and despicable.

The plot of THE SKIN I LIVE IN is overly melodramatic to the point of being unbelievable. At the same time, the movie takes a cold, detached, clinical attitude toward its subject matter that adds to the torture of having to sit through lewd scenes of abuse, rape, sexual obsession, uncontrolled lust, and psychological torture. Finally, the idea that a man can change his sex and become a beautiful woman is a homosexual, transgender fantasy, a lie designed to attack and destroy humanity’s dependence on God’s Moral Law.
