“Jesus Is King” Sets National Trends

By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor

What started as an album title may very well become a national movement to honor Christ.

Kanye West’s latest album brought the Gospel to the forefront of technology, including a spike in Google searches for “Jesus is king.”

According to Google trends, the term “Jesus is king” has been searched more since West’s album buzz than any point in time in Google history.

Fox News reports that it’s not just the album title that’s gaining traction, however. Google searches for “Jesus” and the query, “What do Christians believe?” also spiked after the album’s release.

To turn these searches into salvations, the American Bible Society announced it would send 1,000 Bibles to people who are interested in the Gospel after listening to West.

“Kanye West’s album has had an immediate effect on the current news cycle. ‘Jesus is King’ was a trending internet search last week with over 1 million queries on Google alone,” said Dr. John Farquhar Plake, director of ministry intelligence at American Bible Society.

“Coincidentally, something we’re seeing as a rising trend is that most Americans turn to Google as a de facto spiritual guide. Our goal with this campaign is to give Americans—and, yes, Kanye fans—the opportunity to look for answers to their most pertinent questions at the source,” Plake said.

West is using the conversations generated by the album to share his testimony.

In a recent appearance on THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN, West spoke openly about his chaotic reputation and how his story allows people to see how much Christ can change a person.

“He always wanted to use me. He wanted me to suffer more, wanted people to see my suffering, see my pain, put stigmas on me, have me go through all the experiences—human experiences—so now when I talk about how Jesus saved me, more people can relate to that experience,” West said.
