SPACE FORCE is a Political Satire that Crashes While Launching

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

SPACE FORCE is a Netflix original series that follows the newest branch of the military, the Space Force. The Space Force is headed by newly promoted four-star General Mark Naird, who hails from the Air Force.

While SPACE FORCE comes from the creator of THE OFFICE (Greg Daniels) and the show’s star Steve Carell, it falls incredibly short of being even the slightest bit funny.

The show attempts to deal with the era of President Trump and his request to create a new branch of the military called the Space Force. The workplace comedy takes every chance it gets to poke fun at the government and makes the political system look like a complete shambles.

The jokes never hit and leave the audience wondering why they’re wasting their time watching the show. But, maybe the mindless stupidity of the show is what they were going for when creating the series.

The seasoned cast including John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, and the late Fred Willard bring audience appeal; however that’s about all they contribute.

If bad jokes and political satire aren’t enough to make you want to skip the show, the rest of the content should be. SPACE FORCE is marred with foul language in all episodes.

Environmentalist, feminist and politically correct elements are scattered throughout. The show even hits on having an open marriage and homosexual relationships.

With all the bad, there is a small dash of morality sprinkled in as well.

Even though the family dynamic is very dysfunctional, the father loves his daughter and comes to her rescue when she needs him. Marriage is extolled in the beginning episodes as a major couple loves one another and sticks by each other in hard times. There’s even one line that talks about the military defending the constitution and not a political party.

Overall, SPACE FORCE has a slew of worldview problems with horrible language and terrible jokes the entire way through. The series had all the right nuts and bolts to give audiences something to laugh about, but missed all the marks.
