If you expected to get new episodes of NCIS Season 23 in January, you’re in for a disappointment.
Even though episode nine left one whopper of a cliffhanger, CBS has delayed new episodes of the season until Feb. 24 Meanwhile, NBC, ABC and Fox will have new episodes of their serials in January, GeekSided reported.
The reason for the change is the winter Olympics, Geek Sided said. While other networks will reduce showtime in February, CBS offers a longer break and a more consistent schedule.
When NCIS Season 23 resumes with episode 10, “The Choice,” fans will get to see a story with former team member Ellie Bishop, played by Emily Wickersham.
Executive producer Steven D. Binder told TV Line he had played with the idea of bringing Bishop back for a year. When he approached Wickersham about it, she was all in.

He said of the season’s upcoming episodes, “We’re gonna run this story out and have it end, so expect to see her right now in one episode that will run it out. We have no official plans right now to continue that storyline, but we had a great time with Emily, and Emily had a great time here. So she’s sort of back on the roster, so to speak.”
“But we’ve done some very long arc stories that have run out. This is not going to be one of them,” he stressed. “We’re going to go right to what people want to see, and we’re going to have some closure, although that may or may not be what people want to see. We’ll find out.”
Binder revealed that Bishop has “done something wrong,” but the mystery is why, and that’s what the storyline will explore.
He clarified that Bishop may return in the future, though there aren’t any plans for that.
“[Bishop] always was an interesting character. She’s a way more interesting character now, because of the wear and tear on the psyche,” he added.
In other NCIS news, it was recently confirmed that CBS will not renew NCIS: TONY & ZIVA, which starred Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly as a couple. Previously, the actors teased Mark Harmon would join them on screen for a reunion, but now that will never happen.
There isn’t an official reason for the cancellation that was announced, but CBR guesses that since it was a Paramount+ exclusive, that probably affected the cancellation. On top of that, there were also week-to-week declines in viewership.
de Pablo shared a photo of her and Weatherly after the cancellation.
She wrote, “Twelve years ago, after my final scene on NCIS, Michael and I walked back to our trailers and this photo was taken. We had no idea then that Tony and Ziva’s story would one day come full circle. Today, this photo carries a beautiful new meaning. May Tony and Ziva walk into their forever. Thank you all for your love and support ❤️”
While fans will have to wait a little longer than expected for new NCIS content, it’s sure to be worth the wait.
