Ally Brooke Talks Acting Alongside Kelsey Grammer And New Performance In HIGH EXPECTATIONS

By Movieguide® Staff

Singer Ally Brooke and former member of the popular music group Fifth Harmony recently starred in and performed in the movie HIGH EXPECTATIONS.

Brooke plays Sophia in the movie, the main support system to Jack Davis (Taylor Gray), a soccer player who has given up on his dreams.

Brooke also starred alongside Hollywood legend Kelsey Grammer.

“I had I think it was one scene. But that scene alone, I just was like, so graced by him,” Brooke told Movieguide® of her experience of acting alongside Grammer. “I loved working with him. He was so sweet and I had some nerves, but he couldn’t have been kinder, and I would just kind of look at him and he would be there and give advice and have such wisdom. He really wanted to make sure I was loved and comfortable. He’s a movie star. He’s legendary. And I told him that.”

Not only does Brooke act, but she also sings an original song in the movie, written by the movie’s director.

The first verse of the song reads:

“I’m tired of those high expectations / assumed you’d be the prodigal son / A chip off the old block you’re not / be thankful, you’re even better off.”

Brooke said she loved the “deep and meaningful” lyrics but especially loved singing them in Spanish.

“It was something that I loved and being able to connect more to me, being able to dive more into me and into Sophia… I mean, that was something that was really touching for me,” she said. “I loved it. I think that’s my favorite version.”

Brooke has 5.5 million followers on Instagram, but that doesn’t keep her from sharing her faith.

In one post, Brooke prayed and shares snippets of her singing her favorite worship song, “What A Beautiful Name,” ahead of her label showcase.

“TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! My label showcase! I cannot find the right words to share exactly what I’m feeling inside,” she wrote. “I am just so excited and truly HAPPY. What better way to celebrate today than by bringing praise to Jesus. This is one of my favorite worship songs. I am so grateful to Him for everything that is happening and for the people that surround me. My band and I spontaneously recorded this the other day and I’m glad to share this with you on this special day. It’s going to be amazing!”

She added in a separate post: “‘The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.’ Thank You Jesus for this moment in time and these beautiful souls that surround me. I can do nothing apart from You! But I can do ALL THINGS with YOU! GOD BLESS US ALL AND OUR SHOW.”
