John Crist and Sarah Zanotti teamed up for a series of church administration skits, and their latest debate on VBS themes is hilarious.
“We need to come up with this year’s theme for vacation Bible school,” Zanotti says as she steps into a church office. “…There has been a little bit of controversy. Speaking of controversy, the church has been named in the Newsboys lawsuit. We’ll talk about it later.”
Crist, posing as another church employee, and Zanotti recalled last year’s Ms. Rachel VBS package, which was fine until Ms. Rachel heard about it (apparently, it’s not the church’s first foray into legal problems).
“We can’t do that again,” Crist says. “Oh! You know what’s super popular? The Savannah Bananas!”
Sarah objects as she steps into a daydream about the team’s twerking, synchronized dancing and muscles.
“Not Christian enough,” she says. Her solution? A Taylor Swift themed VBS — “Eras of the Bible.”

Many of Crist and Zanotti’s church series videos are parallels to things that have happened at real churches. The duo take those on in a hilarious fashion.
Some of their other videos are about a testosterone company sponsoring a men’s retreat, a Black Bible study, a church chief financial officer putting a price on salvation and more.
Crist gets inspiration for his comedy from his Christian upbringing.
“I heard someone say that if you want to be a truly transcendent comedian, you need to write about what you know,” he explained. “So growing up in church, dad being a pastor, homeschooled, working at Chick-fil-A…that was my life, that was my mindset. So I started talking from that angle.”
“Sure enough, everyone seemed to relate. I think if you grew up in America, even if you aren’t a Christian, you know who Jesus is…I try to stick to topics everyone knows about,” he said.
He nails that in another of his church admin videos about rival churches.
“Okay so LifePoint, their pastor at the end of service said that if anybody came forward for prayer, they’d be entered to win a new car,” Zanotti says in the church office.
“We can’t compete with that,” Crist says with a sigh. “I thought when the Chick-fil-A did their rebrand they gave us their playground…I thought that was gonna put up over the top. We were going to win the whole city.”
Their special visitor parking can’t compete with LifePoint’s visitor valet. Tips go to summer mission trips.
Whether its debating VBS themes or poking fun at mega-church culture, Crist and Zanotti have found an amusing way to bring Christians together through laughter.
