11-Year-Old Novel Goes Viral Following Daughter’s Post on TikTok

Lloyd Devereux Richards spent 14 years working on his novel STONE MAIDENS; after 11 years of nearly no sales, his book has now gone viral thanks to a TikTok made by his daughter.
“My dad spent 14 years writing a book,” The TikTok said, “he worked full time and his kids came first. But made time for his book he’s so happy even though sales aren’t great. I’d love for him to get some sales. He doesn’t even know what TikTok is.”
The TikTok, posted Feb 7, has garnered nearly 50 million views and STONE MAIDENS has launched to the no. 1 book in the serial killer/thriller genre on Amazon.
Marguerite Richards, Lloyd Richards’ daughter, said that she was inspired to post on TikTok after her father finished the sequel to STONE MAIDENS.
“I was just kind of going through, making a video without him really knowing and I created an account and posted it, and no one knew this,” Marguerite Richards explained, “just in the hopes that a few people would read his first book – that was what I was hoping.”
“[I] grew up watching my dad write,” she continued, “he would work all day, come home, have dinner with me and my brothers and spend time with us and grab little pockets of writing. When [STONE MAIDENS was] published, we were so excited – so proud of him.”
In the following weeks, Marguerite Richards has continued to post updates on TikTok, such as her father’s reaction to the overwhelming support he has received, to his response to his book becoming a best seller on Amazon.
“I didn’t know that young people wanted to even read a book like mine or that they like reading so much,” Lloyd Richards said, “It seems like they really are reading, and that really touched me – that our country is in good shape if people want to read books.”
