BRADY BUNCH Star Christopher Knight Talks New Documentary: ‘Miraculous’

By Movieguide® Contributor

BRADY BUNCH star Christopher Knight’s “miraculous” new documentary shines a light on those living with Williams Syndrome.

“We didn’t start out making a movie that would be an awareness piece for Williams syndrome, but we’re grateful that it can be used in that way,” he told PEOPLE of TRUELOVE: THE FILM.

Williams Syndrome is “a genetic condition that is present at birth and can affect anyone. It is characterized by medical problems, including cardiovascular disease, developmental delays, and learning challenges. These often occur side by side with striking verbal abilities, highly social personalities, and an affinity for music,” per the Williams Syndrome Association website.

Knight’s documentary tells the story of Callie, a teenager with Williams Syndrome who gained an online following after creating a Facebook page in 2014.

“She melted my heart. She melted my wife’s heart,” Knight said of his time with Callie. “She’s just miraculous in that regard, in that she brings people together — and it was not just her.”

TRUELOVE follows Callie as she travels across the country, meeting others with Williams Syndrome whom she initially connected with online.

“The one audience we wanted to make sure that we were accepted by was the Williams community,” Knight shared. “And there was a great outpouring of support at that matter of fact. Not only support, but they wanted [the final movie] immediately, interestingly, for their own families to be able to show other members… to describe what this is that their child might have.”

Knight posted about TRUELOVE on Instagram, writing, “Many of you have followed us on this year’s long journey of making a very special documentary about a rare genetic disorder called Williams syndrome and how those precious individuals who live with it can teach the rest of humanity to better itself.”

He continued, “TRUELOVE: THE FILM has been a labor of love that, in the process, changed everyone involved in making the film.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Knight:

THE BRADY BUNCH star Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady, is sharing how much the sitcom impacted his life…

“I’m feeling totally prostituted at that point by my mom,” Knight said. “I think in a way, I totally was, and by her own admission it was and that she was sorry about it.”

“I don’t know how many children from entertainment can say that, in fact, the entertainment industry saved them. It taught me the value of getting along,” he added. “And I don’t know if I would have learned that if I didn’t have the show to be embraced by and the environment to reflect on me that because it wasn’t at home. I’m a much better person as a result of the experience.”

“We’re like a family who live in different states and get together around the holidays,” he said previously about his BRADY BUNCH cast mates.
