Danny Gokey Celebrates ‘Hundreds’ Saved at Concerts: ‘Bring Them to the Altar’

By Movieguide® Contributor

For Christian artist Danny Gokey, his “Stay Strong” tour isn’t just about the music but about the chance for Christian fans to reach out to their non-Christian friends.

“Something interesting has been happening on this tour,” Gokey began in a video posted on Instagram. “Now, on all my tours, I’ve always given an invitation for people to follow Christ from their seats, but this year, the Lord said, ‘Bring them to the altar.’”

The “Hope in Front of Me” singer admitted he was initially “nervous” about the exhortation, believing most of his concertgoers were already believers. Then he realized how many of those in attendance were not.

“Well, to my surprise, people were coming to the altars, and we’ve had hundreds of people that have come to the altars. And another cool thing is we’ve been able to give each person a Bible who professes Christ…for the first time,” Gokey said.

“It’s been so enlightening to see that no matter where you are, there are people who don’t know Jesus,” he added.

In the post, he encouraged fans to bring their nonbelieving friends to his concerts as a way to share the gospel with them and fulfill the Great Commission “to go in, teach and preach the gospel make disciples of Jesus.”

“This is what we’re called to do, and if you’re not doing it, we’re not living up to the ultimate call on our life,” Gokey explained. “[E]ternity is a long time. We want to get people with Jesus for eternity.”

Serving those in need is another way that the AMERICAN IDOL alum says fans can help fulfill God’s calling. During his tour, Gokey’s nonprofit Better Than I Found It is stopping at cities called Bus Stops to bring resources to those helping others less fortunate, as Movieguide® previously reported:

“Doing the bus stops last spring was such an eye-opening experience,” Gokey said, referring to the giveback events he integrated into his tours. “There are so many people in need. So, we had to keep it going for the Fall tour. This time, we’re doing fewer stops with the intent of making a longer-lasting impact on the nonprofits we’re helping. I can’t wait for you to hear the inspiring stories of these founders.”

The “Bus Stops” shine a light on individuals and organizations that are helping those in their community and provide resources for people who are struggling.

The “Bus Stops” will occur in four cities: Nashville, Tenn., Macon, Ga., Fort Wayne, Ind., and Woodbridge, Va.

New Mercies Ministries in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which helps families in need, was one of the stops Gokey highlighted and will receive supplies such as diapers, school supplies and car seats. Fans can help donate items through an online wishlist.

“Thanks for being a part in changing the lives of these families,” Gokey told his fans. “It’s what the Bible says about letting your light so shine before men so that they see our good works and glorify the King in heaven.”

The singer posts devotionals on social media. In a recent post, he shared how we are less judgmental when we remember our own need for Jesus.

“Even though we’re saved, we desperately need Jesus because He is the reason why we have good characteristics because it’s Christ in us, the hope of glory,” Gokey explained.

He added, “Our finger of judgment goes down when we realize that we were helpless before Jesus and that those who don’t have Jesus are still in a helpless state, but we can love people back to Jesus.”
